Set up a high-performance Wi-Fi 6 mesh network with D-Link EasyMesh

  • Wireless: Simultaneous dual-band with Wi-Fi 6 and AX1500 class (up to 287Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and up to 1,201Mbps on the 5GHz band). This equipment supports both OFDMA and MU-MIMO in both frequency bands, it also supports WPA3-Personal to provide the best possible security in the wireless network.
  • Mesh: It has WiFi roaming between nodes and band-steering to unify the bands in the same SSID. It supports 802.11k/v roaming standards, as well as EasyMesh for increased compatibility with other manufacturers.
  • Cabling: a Gigabit Ethernet port for the Internet WAN, it supports VLANs in the Internet WAN and also the triple VLAN of Movistar FTTH. It also has a total of four Gigabit Ethernet ports for the LAN.
  • firmware: The firmware of this router is quite complete, both in terms of Wi-Fi configuration options as well as Movistar’s triple VLAN and other built-in services.

The price of this router is around 65 euros, a very competitive price if we take into account all the functions that it will provide us and that we will be able to form a high-performance mesh network.

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a router, but one that provides you with very good wireless coverage and speed, this model is ideal for you.

DIR-X1860

D-Link DIR-X1860

This router belongs to the mid-range of the manufacturer’s routers, it has similar characteristics to the previous one, but the 2.4GHz band is faster than the previous model, and it has somewhat more powerful hardware than the previous model. We believe that this model is ideal for a domestic environment where we want to obtain very good speed. Next, you can see all the technical characteristics of this model:

  • Wireless: Simultaneous dual band with Wi-Fi 6 and AX1800 class (up to 574Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and up to 1,201Mbps on the 5GHz band). We also have OFDMA and MU-MIMO on both frequency bands, plus we have WPA3-Personal to provide the best possible security.
  • Mesh: It has the same features as the previous model, we have WiFi roaming with 802.11k/v and also band-steering, it also has EasyMesh.
  • Cabling: Like the previous model, we have 1 1G port for the Internet WAN with Movistar FTTH triple VLAN support and a total of 4 Gigabit ports for the LAN.
  • firmware: the firmware of this router is quite complete, we have advanced parental control, the possibility of configuring the WiFi network in detail, configuring the Movistar FTTH triple VLAN and many other built-in services.

This router is priced at around 115 euros, a very competitive price if we take into account the real performance it provides. In RedesZone we have a complete review of this equipment where we check the WiFi speed and coverage, as well as the behavior in the LAN and LAN-WAN performance tests.

This model is ideal for domestic environments, together with a Mesh repeater or a WiFi Mesh to expand coverage and have several nodes distributed throughout the house.

DIR-X5460

This router belongs to the top range of the manufacturer’s routers, and it is that we have some really impressive features, especially at the wireless level that will provide us with wireless performance beyond any doubt. If you need to buy the best router that D-Link currently has, this team is ideal for you. Next, you can see all the technical characteristics of this model:

  • Wireless: Simultaneous dual-band with Wi-Fi 6 and AX5400 class (up to 574Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and up to 4804Mbps on the 5GHz band). We have OFDMA and MU-MIMO in both frequency bands and WPA3-Personal to provide the best possible security.
  • USB: This computer incorporates a high-performance USB 3.0 port, and a USB 2.0 port. Both will allow us to share files and folders.
  • firmware: the firmware of this router is quite complete, we have the same characteristics of the previous ones, but the configuration of the servers is added to make the most of the USB ports.

This router has a price of around 210 euros, although it may seem a high price, we must bear in mind that it is the top of the range of the family, with 6 external antennas and exceptional Wi-Fi 6 performance, since we can achieve speeds really high.

If you want to have the most powerful router, and that has USB ports to share files on the local network, this model is the ideal one for you.

Wi-Fi mesh system

The only WiFi Mesh system from the manufacturer D-Link that supports EasyMesh and is compatible with the routers that we have mentioned before is the D-Link COVR-X1862 and COVR-X1863 models, that is, the version with two nodes and three nodes respectively.

These devices will allow us to extend the wireless network of the main router, and can even function as the main router without any problem, although we will only have two Gigabit ports for each of the nodes. Next, you can see the main characteristics of these teams:

  • Wireless: Simultaneous dual band with Wi-Fi 6 and AX1800 class (up to 574Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and up to 1,201Mbps on the 5GHz band). This WiFi Mesh has OFDMA, MU-MIMO and support for WPA3-Personal.
  • Mesh: WiFi roaming with 802.11k/v and EasyMesh compatibility, also has band-steering.
  • Cabling: 1 Gigabit port for the Internet WAN with Movistar FTTH triple VLAN support and 1 Gigabit port for the LAN.
  • firmware: the firmware of this model is quite complete, we have advanced parental control, extensive WiFi and Internet options, and other interesting services.

This WiFi Mesh system is one of the most recommended for its great value for money, and we are going to achieve very high performance in our home and with very good stability. The price of this model is around 160 euros for the two-node version, and €205 for the three-node version. Without a doubt, it is worth buying the 3-node version that is proportionally cheaper in price per node, but you should think about whether you are going to take advantage of that additional node or not.

If you need a router from the above, and then have a couple of Mesh nodes, buying the COVR-X1862 device is the ideal solution because they intercommunicate and we will have the best possible user experience.

Wi-Fi wall repeater

If you need a WiFi wall repeater, instead of one like the previous COVR that connects through a current transformer, the model you should buy is the DAP-X1860, a high-end repeater that will provide us with a very good wireless coverage and also great WiFi speeds, making it the right purchase to extend the coverage of any of the above routers or the COVR.

Next, you can see the main characteristics of this repeater:

  • Wireless: Simultaneous dual band with Wi-Fi 6 and AX1800 class (up to 574Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and up to 1,201Mbps on the 5GHz band). This WiFi Mesh has OFDMA, MU-MIMO and support for WPA3-Personal.
  • Mesh: WiFi roaming with 802.11k/v and EasyMesh compatibility, also has band-steering.
  • Cabling: 1 Gigabit port for LAN.
  • firmware: Integrates seamlessly into the Mesh network, either the router or the COVR. However, it allows us to connect it in WiFi repeater mode or AP mode.

The price of this repeater is around €70, a very competitive price if we take into account its technical specifications.

As you can see, D-Link currently has different types of equipment (routers, WiFi mesh and repeaters) that communicate with each other to form a complete Mesh network, and enjoy the best user experience with the Internet connection. If you have problems with WiFi coverage at home, with cuts, and even with a high latency in the connection, these devices will solve all these problems.
