Seville hosts the 6th edition of the 5G Forum, an event that brings together the world leaders in this technology

For five days, two face-to-face and three virtual, the city of Seville will become the epicenter of 5G technology with the celebration of the event ‘5G Forum’. Leaders of the sector from all over the world will meet, between May 8 and 12 at the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos (Fibes), around the presentation and configuration of the new 5G map of Spain.

At this year’s event, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation will address such highlights such as the new private networks, the readjustment of frequencies due to the Orange-MásMóvil merger and government aid for 5G.

80% of the 5G network in Spain works with DSS technology, something that encourages many mobile operators to include this type of connection in their rates. In the annual study of ‘The State of 5G’it is revealed that 5G is present in 2,497 cities in 92 countries, with Spain occupying the seventh position ahead of India, Japan, Germany, France and Italy.

The celebration of the ‘5G Forum’ supposes the confluence, in a specific and multidisciplinary event, of companies and professionals from Spain, the United States, China and the European Union, carrying out a first level networking. It will also be marked by the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC)which will take place in November in the United Arab Emirates and which will establish the guidelines for the coming decades.

The keys to the sixth edition

The opening of the sessions of the ‘5G Forum’ will be carried out by the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures, while the breakdown of the ‘Map of 5G in Spain’ will be borne by Antonio Fernandez-PaniaguaGeneral Deputy Director of Planning and Management of the Radioelectric Spectrum.

At the beginning of the year, the Council of Ministers announced the approval of a royal decree for which he would allocate part of the 26GHz frequency band, allocating the qualifying titles to private networks on a self-provision basis and using private 5G networks to industries or ports. The forecasts are that the numbers of the last edition will be exceeded, where 837 professionals from more than 250 companies participated, accounting for 65 speakers, 20% of whom were women.
