Shazam for iOS now recognizes content played on mobile

Shazam is one of those “lifelong” apps, of which they have been present in our smartphones… wow, practically from the first moment we had smartphones. Not in vain, as we told you last year when we echoed the 20 years of this service, his was one of the applications available in the iOS App Store from its first day of existence. This explains why it is strange to meet someone who does not know of their existence and functions.

But he’s not that popular just because of his seniority, the key to its success is its usefulness. It has happened to practically all of us, on multiple occasions, to listen to a song that we like but that we are not able to identify at that moment. Either because we did not know it or because it is familiar to us but its metadata resists us, it can really be a somewhat frustrating situation. Before, you had to turn to the people around you, trusting that someone could clear your doubts, but since the arrival of Shazam, everything is much easier.

It happens, however, that in certain circumstances we cannot use Shazam to identify a song, and one of the most common cases is the one that occurs when the content is being played on the same iPhone on which we use the app. Of course, we always have the option of using a second device to play the content, but this makes the process less practical, as well as making it impossible if we don’t have a second device.

Shazam for iOS now recognizes content played on mobile

I have started the previous paragraph speaking in the present although, in reality, I should have done it in the preterite, and it is that Shazam already allows the identification of content that is being played on the same device, as we can see in the notes of the most recent update of the app in the iOS store. At the moment the function is compatible with Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, but given how it works, it is expected that its scope can be extended in the future, thus making it even more useful. Not so much, of course, as the floating mode function that allows you to use Shazam from any compatible app on Android.

To be able to use this function on iOS you must make sure you have version 15.36 (or later) of Shazam. Its operation is very simple, just open Shazam, press the identification button, then switch to the app in which the content is found and play it in the normal way. In a few seconds you will see the microphone icon appear in the top bar and, if the identification is positive, the information will be displayed shortly after at the top of the screen, as well as being added to the app’s results log.
