Spanish studio Tequila Works becomes part of Tencent

The renowned Madrid studio Tequila Worksresponsible for titles such as Rime, Gylt or The Sexy Brutale, among others, has announced that the Chinese giant Tencent has become its majority shareholder. And it is that in addition to the great works and the professionalism demonstrated previously, this study has recently gained greater prominence by being the makers of Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Storythe next exploration, platforming and action adventure set in the League of Legends universe.

In fact, everything indicates that this has been one of the main reasons for the acquisition of the Spanish studio, being Tencent the current owner of Riot Games. Although, without a doubt, nothing of merit can be taken away from these entrepreneurs.

«For 12 years, the teams at Tequila Works have passionately created high-quality titles that exude our personal sensibilities, but there’s only so much you can grow on your own.“, Explain Raúl Rubio, CEO of the study, in the official statement published on his blog. «They are a partner who can appreciate the value of the best creative talent with originality as their flag. One that respects our independence and creative freedom. This partnership will allow us to focus on furthering the original IPs we are known for and creating the best experiences we can dream of.«.

So this movement further consolidates Tencent’s recent commitment to the video game sectoran industry in which it seems to be focusing its latest moves and investments, investing in more than 100 video game companies during 2021 alone. In fact, at the end of last month the tech giant announced the acquisition of 1C Entertainment and Inflexion Games, two studies that join Turtle Rock Studios (Back 4 Blood) after its acquisition at the end of last year, or the first movement as majority shareholder of Bloober Team (The Medium).
