The European Commission has just ordered the recall of certain Tesla Model S and Tesla Model 3 produced between 2014 and 2021. The warning was posted online this Friday, April 15, 2022 before being relayed by Rappel Conso, the French government site.

The authorities point to a fragility in the hood of the car. Motorists driving an affected vehicle are urged to contact their dealer as soon as possible. For now, it is unknown how many units are affected by the failure.

Increased risk of accidents on the Tesla Model 3 and Model S

According to the warning relayed by Rappel Conso, the hood of the car may open in the middle of a journey, obstructing the driver’s vision. “At high speeds, the air intake between the bonnet and the radiator grille causes vibrations in the bonnet. This can lead to stress fractures along the hood latch striker and its separation from the hood, causing the hood to pop open. This impedes the vision of drivers, which increases the risk of an accident”explains the government website.

In concrete terms, the air that infiltrates the car could end up in the sudden opening of the hood. If this failure occurs on a high-speed road, the risk of an accident is very high.

This is not the first time that Tesla has been forced to organize the recall of certain cars. In February, the American brand recalled 579,000 electric cars in the United States. Authorities said a personalization option launched in 2020 put pedestrians’ lives at great risk.

A few days earlier, Tesla recalled 26,000 cars for defrosting problems. Same story at the end of 2021, with the forced recall of 500,000 Tesla cars. Several significant technical problems on the rear view camera and the front trunk on the Model 3 and Model S were then identified. In the space of a year, the manufacturer has accumulated more than fifteen recalls.
