The AirPods Pro 2 would be compatible with Lossless audio, a first

The AirPods Pro 2, Apple’s future high-end headphones, would be compatible with Lossless audio, a format that allows you to listen to songs without the slightest loss in quality. Expected at the end of 2022, the headphones would also be accompanied by a new case capable of ringing.

TF International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the AirPods Pro 2 will be compatible with Lossless audio. In a report intended for financial investors, the analyst, whose predictions are very often confirmed, assures that the headphones will allow listening to Hi-Fi quality songs lossless.

The brand’s current headphones and speakers, namely AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max and HomePod / HomePod Mini are not compatible with Hi-Res. However, Apple Music has been offering for a few months all the songs in its catalog in “lossless”, without loss of quality and without any compression.

A new charging case for AirPods Pro 2

According to Kuo’s information, AirPods Pro 2 would be able to read ALAC files (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) used by Apple Music to offer Hi-Fi quality. This is not the case with current AirPods, whose Bluetooth connection only allows files in AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) format to be played.

In a recent interview, Gary Geaves, vice president of acoustics at Apple, hinted that the company is looking for a solution to distribute high quality files through Bluetooth. According to the framework, the quality of bandwidth offered by the Bluetooth standard limits the possibilities offered by the technologies integrated into the headphones.

Also according to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple would take the opportunity to improve the charging case for AirPods Pro. The Californian manufacturer would apparently allow the charging case to emit sound through small speakers. Like an AirTag, the limp will ring to help the user get their hands on it. To activate the sound, you would have to go through the Locate application. Currently, only headphones can ring to indicate their presence.
