The 2Africa submarine cable has already reached Spain. Specific To Barcelona, where it is already hooked. The news has been confirmed by Meta, which is part of the consortium of companies and entities in charge of its deployment and connection, which is known by the same name as the cable. The company has also indicated that this hitch is one of the 46 points to which the cable will be connected until 2024, when its deployment will end.
This cable has been connected in the town of Sant Adrià de Besòs, which is located to the east of Barcelona, and for its mooring, the 2Africa consortium has partnered with AFR-IX telecom. This cable mooring has open access, which means that companies and service providers in Spain will be able to access the international connectivity it offers from the company’s various independent facilities that have a direct connection to the cable mooring station.
The deployment of the 2Africa cable was announced in May 2020. It connects Europe, Asia and Africa and is designed to provide international connectivity to some 3 billion people. That is: 36% of the world’s population. It is 45,000 kilometers long, making it the longest submarine cable deployed to date.
