The Lord of the Rings Gollum requirements on PC

Daedalic Entertainment and Nacon have confirmed on Steam the requirements for The Lord of the Rings Gollum, a highly anticipated game that will hit the market on May 25, and that has been developed as an intergenerational transition title, which means that it will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series XS and PC.

We know that the PC version will feature ray tracing applied to shadows and reflections, but not to lighting, which is a shame because ray tracing marks a most noticeable improvement precisely when applied to light sources. To offset the impact of ray tracing on performance, DLSS support will be integrated, although we don’t know if it will be limited to Super Resolution or if it will also include frame generation (DLSS 3).

The Lord of the Rings Gollum Minimum Requirements

  • Windows 10 as an operating system in its 64-bit version.
  • Intel Core i7-4770 or Ryzen 5 1600 processor. We have an equivalence error, the closest thing to the Intel Core i7-4770 would be a Ryzen 5 1400.
  • 16 GB of RAM. As it is an intergenerational transition game, it is clear that this requirement is inflated, and that the minimum will be 8 GB.
  • GeForce GTX 1080 or GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card. They don’t give AMD equivalencies, but the closest would be a Radeon RX 5700. Again, this requirement seems inflated.
  • 45 GB of free space.
  • DirectX 11.

In theory, if we meet these requirements we can play in 1080p with medium quality. Again, all the hardware it asks for at this level is overkill for a cross-gen transition game. We will have to wait to try it to see if it is about inflated requirements, a poorly optimized game or a bit of both.

The Lord of the Rings Gollum Recommended Requirements

  • Windows 10 as an operating system in its 64-bit version.
  • Intel Core i3-6100 or Ryzen 5 2600 processor. We have a very serious equivalence error, so much so that the Core i3-6100 is less than the minimum requirement, the Intel Core i7-4770, since it only has two cores and four threads, and the second four cores and eight threads. The Ryzen 5 2600 has six cores and twelve threads, so you can see how messed up the requirements are.
  • 32 GB of RAM. An exaggeration, because as it is an intergenerational transition game, it is clear that you will have plenty of 16 GB.
  • GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card. They do not give AMD equivalences, the closest thing would be a Radeon RX 6950 XT if we want to activate ray tracing, but the NVIDIA solution performs better with said technology activated.
  • 45 GB of free space.
  • DirectX 12.

With this hardware we could move the game in 1440p with high quality and ray tracing on, using DLSS in quality mode to improve fluency. I imagine that, with the GeForce RTX 3080, we shouldn’t have any problems moving it in 4K with that same level of quality and DLSS in performance mode either.
