They detect the error in the ASUS Z690 HERO boards and how to fix it

The blood has reached the river and in some cases has endangered more than one CP and perhaps being catastrophic possibly more than one home. But it is that the problem that ASUS has had with its ROG Maximus Z690 HERO is not typical of the year in which we are, where many plates have literally ended up in flames. Fortunately, the error has already been detected and the company has spoken to offer an optimal solution.

Looking at the article that we released this week on the problems and the number of complaints in official ASUS forums, such as Reddit, it was evident that so many different configurations, so many users and of course so many ways to use a PC were not an obvious reason to exonerate to the component that ended up burning or broken in all cases. The common denominator was clear, now it was necessary to know what was happening and how it could be repaired, if at all.

ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 HERO, this is the problem

A simple DDR5 RAM memory capacitor is the culprit of all this mess that has had more than one user in a state of permanent anger with the brand. And it is that there were not few who received a replacement model to which it was broken and they were seen again with the same problem for the second time, and even for the third time in certain cases.

The answer to the uncertainty is already here and it is nothing more than a failure in the assembly of a very specific product: a capacitor / capacitor of energy that was placed in reverse and soldered in certain units of this motherboard.

This produced in the best of cases the typical error 53 of the RAM memory and in the worst that the motherboard went out in flames.

But how has this come about? Apparently in the assembly line the robots took a batch of capacitors that were rotated horizontally 180ยบ which when soldered they were exchanging the correct position on the base plate.

ASUS stands up and already offers solutions

The problem was very concrete and very specific, as not all ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 HERO boards have this problem. The company has provided the specific batches and ensures that all the plates with the following code are affected: 90MB18E0-MVAAY0, as well as all those whose serial number begins with MA, MB or MC, something that we can see on the label that has the box of each unit.

In any case, all units were manufactured in 2021 and ASUS already offers a solution through an official statement:

To our valued ASUS customers,

ASUS is committed to producing the highest quality products and we take all incident reports from our valued customers very seriously. Recently, we have received reports of incidents related to the ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboard. In our ongoing investigation, we have preliminarily identified a potential ‘reversed’ memory capacitor issue in the production process of one of the assembly lines that can cause debug error code 53, failing to pass the board base the POST or by damaging the motherboard components. The issue potentially affects drives manufactured in 2021 with part number 90MB18E0-MVAAY0 and serial number beginning with MA, MB, or MC.

You can identify your part number by looking at the product packaging.

Going forward, we will continue our thorough inspection with our suppliers and customers to identify all possible affected ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboards on the market and will work with the relevant government agencies on a replacement program.

Thank you all so much for your patience and support as we work on the replacement program.

Contact options

Kind regards,
The ASUS team

Considering the statement, it is important to contact ASUS through the common communication channels to process the guarantee directly with them if the store does not have stock or units available, since the first two years is precisely the store that offers the guarantee and seeing the recognized problem by the manufacturers there should be no impediment to this.

Of course, attached the statement to the store so that they send you a motherboard that is not affected with this problem in the ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 HERO, because if the replacement is affected it will fail again and logically break. If the store does not want to take care of the replacement and sends you to RMA with ASUS (it should not go through the aforementioned), the contact details of ASUS Spain are the following:

  • Customer service -> 932938154 (from 9am to 8pm LV except national holidays)
  • Email -> https://www.asus.com/es/support/

From this website you can carry out all the procedures directly explaining the case and as if that were not enough here you have the ASUS repair / service centers in our country.
