Twitch improves its “offline” functions

Although these recent times are not being especially good for Twitch, especially due to the drop in users after the enormous growth it experienced during the pandemic, to this day it is still the most popular platform in terms of the world of streaming. It is true that, in this respect, YouTube seems to have realized that it was something that it had not promoted in the past, so that for a while now it has introduced quite a few improvements, thus attracting more content creators who choose by the direct formula.

twitch has always been a platform designed by and for the direct. Streamers have the possibility to highlight some of them so that they remain available on the service indefinitely, and users who attend live shows have the possibility to create clips (small clips of up to 90 seconds with notable moments of the live shows). ) that are also kept indefinitely on the platform, and can therefore be viewed at any time, regardless of whether the streamer is online or offline.

Audiences, and especially the youngest, prefer, however, a content consumption model that better suits their own agendas, that is, being able to consume the content they want at the time they want, something to which the live format does not adapt at all. So while Twitch (and its creators) rely heavily on the limited time window of broadcast times, other services offer many more options for when the creator isn’t broadcasting, but also have the possibility of performing live there. This also greatly affects the visibility of creators.

Twitch improves its functions "offline"

The good news for them is that, as we can read on the official blog of the purple platform, Twitch will offer new features to improve the visibility of streamers when they are not broadcasting. And, how could it be otherwise in this ecosystem of social networks, the two new features announced will be extremely familiar to the vast majority of users, since they reproduce models that we have seen before in other services.

The first, and I almost put my hand in the fire because you may have already imagined it, is that Twitch streamers will be able to create Stories, that is, short recordings that will be visible for 24 hours. These will only be accessible, at least initially, from the app of the service for devices, to the detriment of its web interface, something that we have also seen in other services in the past, and which undoubtedly also represents a strategic move to try to redirect more web users to apps. The debut of this function has been announced for October of this year.

The second novelty in this regard consists in create a dynamic feed made up of short clips of streamers’ broadcasts, regardless of whether they are online or offline at the time. And yes, if you are thinking about it, we are talking about a function quite similar to the operation of TikTok and the Reels of Instagram and Facebook, to give just a couple of examples. In this case, yes, we are not talking about recordings created specifically for this feed, but clips that already exist on the channel. Of course, streamers will be able to tag part of their clips as favorites, which will give them priority when it comes to being selected to be shown in Discovery Feed.
