Computer

why is this always the performance target in games?

A video is nothing more than many images put together and that go by very quickly. Just like in video games, for the experience to be optimal and realistic, the FPS number has to be high.

Is 60 FPS ideal?

It is not necessary to comment that the higher the number of FPS the image quality will be better and therefore if we can choose, we would say 1,000, however this sought value depends on many factors, in order to achieve the best result we have to take into account It counts both the output monitor and the equipment components.

30 vs 60fps

That is to say, if we have the best computer in the world that is capable of moving a game at 300 FPS but our monitor is 30Hz, the result is that only 10% of those FPS will reach our eyes, that is, 30. Since the value in hertz of a screen indicates the maximum frames per second that we can view.

On the contrary, if we have the best monitor on the market but our PC is not capable of supporting a game at more than 40 FPS, then in the same way we will not get to make the most of it.

That is why both component developers, monitor developers and video game companies look for an optimal and average value.

This data is around 60 FPS since most screens on the market use 60Hz, something standard between quality, production costs and sale price. Something also easy to move without having a super computer.

The hertz of a screen indicates the number of times it turns off and on in a second (its refresh rate), even if you notice that it is always on. Therefore, if a monitor turns off and on 30 times in a second, it will not be able to offer us 60 images, but its maximum will be 1 per refresh, that is, 30.

A 144 Hz monitor is always going to look smoother than a 60 Hz one, however the human eye has a maximum number of FPS that it can process and it reaches a point that it doesn’t matter if it’s double or not, so the relationship between the cost and quality of the product and the profit obtained is so low that the optimal result is focused on 60Hz/60FPS. Being the minimum expected (which does not mean the best), since less frequently you would notice the change too much.

This is a fact that has been like this for many years, however, new technologies, advances and manufacturing cost make it increasingly easier and simpler to overcome that barrier and therefore we will gradually go towards reaching a new goal. maybe 90fps?

For now we will have to make do with our monitor and computer and play to the maximum that these allow us.
