Windows 11 runs on a Raspberry Pi thanks to Tiny11, a small technical exploit

Running Windows 11 on a Raspberry Pi, mission impossible? Not anymore thanks to Tiny11, the light version of Windows 11. One more small technical exploit for a community that is a fan of hacking.


Until today, it was useless to think about installing Windows 11 on a Raspberry Pi, the OS being too greedy for the small computer. Until today only… A feat made possible thanks to Tiny11, the lightweight version of Microsoft’s operating system.

The developers behind Tiny11, NDTEV, have rolled out an ARM64 Windows 11 installer. Therefore, it is now possible to install it on the small PC. Umanipulation which was carried out in particular by the American site Tom’s Hardwarewho used a Raspberry Pi 4 for the occasion.

The Raspberry Pi 4 has a Quad core Cortex-A72 processor clocked at 1.5 Ghz, so far from being a thunderbolt, and the version used by Tom’s Hardware only has 2 GB of RAM. But this is enough for Tiny11.

Just place the ISO of Tiny11 on a USB key, an SSD or even an SD card connected to the Raspberry Pi for the installation to start. For the rest, we are in the great classic, the different stages of the configuration following one another as on a “normal” installation. In use, Windows 11 works well according to the site, even if some slowdowns have been observed, especially on Edge.

The thing is, Windows 11 requires certain specific conditions in order to settle on a machine. It must be equipped with a TPM chip, of course, but also with a CPU clocked at 1 Ghz at least, 4 GB of RAM or even 64 GB of storage.

Tiny11 is less greedy. OS designed by NTDEV removes all superfluous aspects of the OS, such as pre-installed software and some add-ons. Because of this, it only requires 8GB of storage as well as 2GB of RAM to run smoothly. A small technical exploit that allows it to be installed on any machine, even on a Raspberry Pi 4. Of course, it is not advisable to use this version on a daily basis, due to the lack of certain software or even the lack of follow-up updates.
