What is a private 5G network?
It is a private network to which a manufacturer can exclusively give access to its customers outside the conventional network and, therefore, has a limited scope in terms of the number of people who can access it. Its use is increasingly implemented and despite the fact that the moment has not reached homes, the level of penetration in the industrial and business world is currently unstoppable. Where are we going to find a private 5G network? Well, in large factories, large university campuses, airports, etc.
The reason for this is simple, placing a short-range Wi-Fi network requires having a Wi-Fi repeater or router within a few meters. In addition, in many cases, the fact that the company or public organization itself is in charge of managing its own long-distance telecommunications network is a huge drop in deployment costs and in the face of cloud-based business services allows workers connect easily and from anywhere in the facilities.
For example, an engineer who has designed part of the body of a car and is solving a problem can move freely throughout the factory without connection problems. Another clear example is traffic in cities, where cars in the future will have a private 5G network with which to synchronize with powerful internal traffic management supercomputers in cities.
Is it going to replace Wi-Fi?
That is the first key question, the fact of having access to the network of networks from anywhere, and without depending on the mobile phone, would be an important step forward for users. However, there are still a number of obstacles to overcome. The fact is that Wi-Fi is good enough in homes and despite having relevant security problems in terms of security, it is much cheaper to deploy and it is a protocol for which all computers are already prepared.
However, there is nothing more annoying with Wi-Fi than being in your own home and having to perform tricks on the situation of the router due to the fact that it does not reach the other end of the home. Obviously, a private 5G network has a much greater reach than conventional 802.11 networks, and therefore can be adopted by more people. Although the key here is latency in games and this is what by movement keeps Wi-Fi in the lead, the greater range of a private 5G network means higher latency and this is fatal for competitive games. And what about the peripherals?
At the same time, we must assume that we do not need a high-speed, high-range connection for our wireless mouse and keyboards. In other words, these types of networks offer nothing to end users, apart from the fact that the beauty of the Bluetooth connection is that its consumption is much lower and, therefore, it is ideal for keyboards, mice and other peripherals.
