Right now, Netflix makes its new basic plan available to all users, a limited plan in every way, and with ads, which for 5.49 euros per month allows us to see, between advertisements, a part of its catalog. A plan that the company thinks will succeed and fill its coffers, but since it began to be talked about, users have been clearly against it. Now that it’s up and running, we’re going to explain everything that this new Netflix plan is (and isn’t).

With this new plan, Netflix seeks to appeal to a younger audience, teenagers with fair money, who no longer watch conventional television. In addition to attracting this audience, Netflix also seeks to attract the attention of advertisers who pay for get out in ads that appear before and during playback of all kinds of series and movies on this platform. But advertising is not the only handicap that we find in this new plan. And it is that quality has been reduced up to 720P, an HD quality that, for many, is insufficient. Until here, it could be something acceptable. But there is still much more fine print. There are many unsupported devices with this new plan. For example, Apple TV, Chromecast, PS3, and any device that runs an old version of the app and no longer receives updates, such as many Smart TVs.

But, after all of the above, we still have the biggest handicap of this plan, and that is that we don’t have all your catalog. Netflix wants to block around 10% of the catalog so that it is not accessible from this plan. And this is going to leave out a large number of series and movies that we are not going to be able to see. The only “good” thing is that the children’s profile will not have advertising (at least the little ones will not see inappropriate content) and that this plan gives us access to the Netflix game catalog, something that, on the other hand, is unnecessary.

Is it worth it in any way?

Taking into account the large number of handicaps that we find in this new cheap plan, and that the basic modality, without restrictions or advertising, costs only 2.5 euros more per month, we cannot think of any reason to be able to contract the new basic plan with ads. If we cannot afford to pay 7.99 euros per month, probably 5.49 is also quite a big effort, and in that case it is better not to pay anything.

Of course, if we are thinking of moving to Disney + or HBO to not see ads, we have bad news, and that is that advertising will reach both platforms equally next year.
