AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX, more power for workstations

AMD is developing a new platform of processors for workstations and one of its flagship models, the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX, has just appeared in the GeekBench test running on an HP Z6 G5 workstation and running on the Ubuntu 22 LTS operating system.

After a long wait, everything indicates that AMD is very close to launching its new high performance desktop processors (HEDT), the Threadripper 7000, which will be marketed in standard and PRO versions. Both series will use the ZEN 4 architecture and will be manufactured by TSMC in the most advanced technological processes in the industry, 5nm node in the chiplets and 6nm node in the I/O chip.

AMD bets -in addition to the technological improvements of the architecture- to increase the number of processing cores up to 96 cores and 192 threads. An impressive number that marks the biggest update to the series since the Threadripper 3000. Another notable improvement in the series is the introduction of the DDR5 memory standard, which is already present in the consumer market.

The 7995WX CPU has been detected in the HP Z6 G5 Workstation, potentially one of the Inaugural pre-built systems from AMD OEM partners. The Threadripper PRO series looks poised to dominate AMD’s HEDT offerings, with no indication of non-PRO consumer models emerging for now.

The processor will support memory configurations DDR5 in eight channels and in the test we see 512 Gbytes installed. They will be compatible with the SP5 socket and offer up to 128 PCIe Gen5 lanes and 8 PCIe Gen3 lanes. They will not support overclocking at the CPU and RAM level, but the truth is that they will not need it with these high configurations.

In fact, the results of 2,095 points in the single-core test and especially the 81,408 points in the multi-core score in Geekbench v5.5, make it a one of the fastest CPUs in this database which is used extensively in the industry for pre-engineering testing and is often also confirmation of an upcoming product release.

Everything indicates that the launch of the Threadripper 7000 will take place next fall in direct competition with the Intel Xeon Series W-2400 and W3400 to drive the latest generation professional workstations.
