As we always say: having competition in all sections and markets of the hardware industry is always a good thing, and it ends up benefiting users. Proof of this is what has just happened: after the recent launch of the Radeon RX 7700 XT and 7800 XT by amd, NVIDIA has begun to suffer pressure from its direct adversary and has been forced to take action; in this case, lower the price of your GeForce RTX 4070.
As a general rule, we almost always find ourselves in the position that for the same performance -or range-, NVIDIA graphics are more expensive than AMD ones. Before they hid behind the fact of integrating dedicated hardware for real-time ray tracing, but now AMD graphics cards also do it and are still cheaper; The reality is that both manufacturers have “adjusted up” the price of their products, but NVIDA is beginning to suffer from the pressure that AMD is putting on it and is being forced to make some important decisions regarding price.
The RTX 4070 is cheaper, but what’s the point?
It is still curious that NVIDIA has chosen the RTX 4070 to lower its price; This graphics card was launched on April 13 of this year at an RRP of $599, placing a mid-high range graphics card designed for 1440p games at a price that seemed affordable if we compare it with what the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090, but it has never really been a top-selling graphics card by any means, especially because the RTX 4070 Ti are far superior for just a little more money.
Also, don’t think that the price reduction on the RTX 4070 has been substantial: it is $50. Also, remember that we are talking about MSRP, that is, the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, which means that then the assemblers and even more so the stores are the ones who decide the final price at which their products are sold, no matter what. say NVIDIA. This means that, although some foreign media have already announced that this discount is effective in stores in their countries, in Spain for now “oranges from China.”
In any case, and although when the RTX 4070 was launched on the market it seemed like a fairly logical graph, today we have the RTX 4070 Ti which is quite superior and the RTX 4060 Ti which, although it is inferior, is not too inferior either and However, it is much cheaper. In other words, NVIDIA continues to have a gap in range and price that, if we look at the global market situation, AMD is currently occupying.
If we were talking about a more aggressive price reduction, for example 100 or 150 dollars, then it would make much more sense and, from our point of view, it would make the sales of this graph skyrocket. Of course, that would mean, on the one hand, that NVIDIA would earn less money and, on the other, that it would have a much larger price gap, cannibalizing sales of the RTX 4060 Ti.
Anyway, ultimately the news is good for users who want to buy an RTX 4070 for a little less than what it cost until now, but the conclusion is that we do not believe that NVIDIA will gain anything from it because AMD’s situation is too consolidated thanks to the latest releases he has made.
