Are AMD graphics cards being broken by a driver?

We don’t like to give bad news, but if a few months ago we informed you about the problems that the RTX 4090 and its new power cable were having, now we have to talk about a problem that affects the graphics cards of its rival, that is, AMD. And it seems that some RX 6000 graphics cards would be breaking. Guilty? It seems that it could be a graphics driver, although everything indicates that it could be fake news created by a store to promote itself.

The graphic division of Lisa Su’s does not stop appearing in the news and not for the better, to the problems of the RX 7900 and its high temperature we have to add another recent one and it is much more serious, since many users are reporting that your graphics cards are suddenly breaking down. What is true about that? Is it a one-off problem that has been exaggerated, or is it something much deeper that could erode the company’s image?

Are AMD’s RX 6000 really breaking?

The story is as follows and it is important to read or listen to it carefully. A German computer component repair company called KrisFix claims that they have received a shipment of AMD RX 6000 graphics cards, specifically the RX 6800/6900 models that are broken. Specifically, they state that 60 broken units have arrived and that 48 of them have the same problem. As a curiosity, this has coincided with the update of the Adrenalin drivers last December, although we cannot confuse causality with chance.

It seems strange to us that the Radeon Technology Group launches a driver that can break graphics cards, although the relevant two-year warranty has already passed. Due to the issue of mining, getting an RX 6000 has not been exactly cheap and the fact that they break after two years, well, it’s not very funny and this means losing many customers in favor of the competition. Something that with their small market share they cannot afford at all.

As of now, no other repair shops have confirmed the facts, so please quarantine and be skeptical. In any case, we are talking about a very small business and suddenly 50 graphics cards arrive with their broken GPU, it is a remarkable figure, although they have not said nor is it known without second-hand units that were misconfigured and misused previously in mining.

The answer is obviously no.

The fact that the problem happened to only one store and we lack complete information about the origin of said graphics cards makes us think badly about the “news”. The first is that on the subject of the RX 6000 being broken, the shop has decided to invent a fake news to advertise itself at the expense of an invented problem, after all, a repair shop has access to a large number of broken units, which could come from graphics cards already burned in mining. Let’s not forget that although AMD has a lot of room for improvement in graphics drivers, they have been professional for years and are not going to launch a driver that will fry their products and leave customers unhappy.
