Cisco buys network monitoring and visibility company Accedian Networks

Cisco has confirmed that it has plans to buy Accedian Networks, a company specializing in the development of software for network monitoring and visibility, as well as performance analysis. Founded in 2004, it is the developer of the Skylight platform, which is responsible for diagnosing problems and recommending solutions to fix them. It is mainly focused on mobile connections, data center services, service providers and cloud connectivity customers.

The company is already a Cisco partner, which offers the Skylight platform for near real-time network monitoring, analytics and security, within its Crosswork Network Automation service provider platform. Its competitors include IBM, SolarWinds, Progress, NetScout and Kentik.

Skylight can identify service degradation issues and automate actions to maintain service quality. In Crosswork Network Automation, Skylight offers sensors and an orchestrator, as well as analytics.

The entire Accedian team will become part of the Cisco staff. Specifically, it will be integrated into its area of Data Centers and Provider Connectivity. If everything goes according to plan, this purchase operation will close during the first quarter of Cisco’s fiscal year 2024, which will begin on August 1.

Kevin Wollenweber, Vice President and Head of Cisco Provider Connectivity and Data Center Grouphas stressed that «With Accedian’s network and user experience monitoring capabilities for communication service provider customers, Cisco has a unique opportunity to link that data to the Cisco ThousandEyes cloud for end-to-end network security. Accedian’s service security portfolio of microsecond-level sensors and powerful Skylight Analytics platform, coupled with Cisco’s strong portfolio, will enable Cisco to bring transformative solutions to our service provider customers.«.
