Dell renews its XPS laptops with the latest from Intel and NVIDIA

Dell has announced the renewal of its star series in laptops with the update of the Dell XPS 15 and XPS 17 to the latest generation of Intel processors and the latest NVIDIA graphics.

Dell’s XPS 13 is one of the best ultraportables on the market. It was the model chosen years ago to demonstrate the capacity of Linux as a pre-installed system in laptops for mass consumption (Sputnik Project) and it was renewed inside and out in 2022, including certification for Ubuntu Linux. Now comes the renewal for his older brothers.

Dell XPS 15 and 17 (2023)

These laptops maintain the minimalist and modern design line that we saw in the XPS 13, with a aluminum chassis that reduces thickness and weight, high-resolution screens with minimal size frames and a good number of configuration options.

The Dell XPS 15 (9530) with display 15.6 inches you can equip a non-touch IPS panel with native FHD resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels) or a 3456 x 2160 pixel OLED touchscreen, both with 16:10 aspect ratio. There are also two options for the Dell XPS 17 (9730), with 17 inches that can equip an FHD non-touch IPS panel and another OLED multi-touch panel that raises the resolution to 3456 x 2160 pixels.

Laptops have been upgraded to processors Intel 13th Gen Corethe 45W Raptor Lake H with three versions to choose from:

  • Intel Core i5-13500H (4 P cores + 8 E cores, up to 4.7 GHz)
  • Intel Core i7-13700H (6 P cores + 8 E cores, up to 5 GHz)
  • Intel Core i9-13900H (6 P cores + 8 E cores, up to 5.4 GHz)

As for the graphic sectionDell offers a good number of options, to choose between the Intel Arc A370M or the latest NVIDIA RTX 40 Mobile, models 4050, 4060, 4070 or 4080. Interestingly, and although these are not specific gaming laptops (that section is covered with the Alienware) the options with dedicated graphics are the first to go on sale, although we expect others that work only with the integrated Intel processors.

Both models can equip 32 Gbytes of dual-channel DDR5-4800 memory and PCIe Gen 4 solid-state drives of up to 1 Tbyte. Connectivity options are state-of-the-art, with Thunderbolt 4, USB-C ports, HDMI output, headphone jack on a four-speaker powered audio system, SD memory card reader, and Intel AX211/Killer 1675 wireless cards with support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.

The prices that are advanced are quite high for the series. $2,949 and $3,399 respectively for the two models. As we said above, these are the highest configurations with dedicated NVIDIA graphics. Dell will later market versions with integrated graphics that should lower (and quite a lot) that price.
