Do consoles seem expensive to you? Well look what they were worth before

Today we are going to see how much each console of the old pesetas was worth and discover if they are cheaper now or then. Was it easier to afford one in the past or today?

Price of each console

We will start in order, from oldest to most recent, and we will see if they have changed much since then on an economic level.

Magnavox Odyssey (1972)

It was the first console in history and its price was around 100 dollars, which would be equivalent at that time to 6,300 pesetas. Today it would be very cheap, but of those it was outrageous.

Atari 2600 (1978)

The next console years later would be even more expensive, for 35,000 pesetas, which back then could be like close to 2,000 euros now. Not an iPhone really.

NES (1987)

The NES was a revolution since its cost was reduced to 30,000 pesetasin addition to the fact that we were already in a year in which the devaluation of the currency was not the same as in 1978 for the Atari.

Master System (1989)

Possibly the cheapest console ever, just 20,000 pesetas. It was not the most popular but it was one of the cheapest.

Mega Drive (1990)

40,000 pesetas it was its price, and it didn’t seem so high because it was a very big seller to be worth twice as much as one released a year earlier. It was really good.

Neo Geo (1991)

79,900 pesetas, quite a failure due to its high price after a popular Mega Drive.

Super Nintendo (1992)

Only 19,900 pesetasthe beginning of a Nintendo that would mark a before and after.

Saturn (1995)

79,900 pesetasDoes anyone remember her? Her price may be the reason.

PlayStation (1995)

Although its price was not entirely cheap, 69,990 pesetaswas one of the best-selling consoles in history.

Nintendo 64 (1997)

It took a lot of sales from the first playstation due to its cost of 34,990 pesetas.

Dreamcast (1999)

One of the last consoles in this currency cost nothing more and nothing less than 39,990 pesetas.

PlayStation 2 (2,000)

And finally, the best-selling console in history was not that cheap, it was released for 74,900 pesetas (€450). However, her success made everyone have to buy it.

These would be all the consoles released at the time of the peseta, surely many of you who are reading this were not even born, and others will remember how expensive it was to be able to get hold of one of these. To change something like the famous Play 2 was more difficult to have than any of today. There were people who did not charge what it was worth in a month. So if your parents gave you one in their time, keep in mind what it cost them.
