Apple frequently releases various software updates, usually focused on its latest operating systems. As far as Mac is concerned, macOS Monterey 12.2.1 is the latest and greatest. Issues that macOS 11.6.4 fixes

We are used to seeing that aesthetic and functional innovations are incorporated into the software updates for the Mac system. However, it is also common to find versions that only correct bugs and this is the case of this macOS 11.6.4, a version belonging to to Big Sur.

At the time of publishing this news, Apple has not given too many details beyond saying that It includes improvements at the security level. We understand that some vulnerability will have been detected important enough to not let it go and, considering that Big Sur is still present on many Macs, they want users to feel protected.

macOS Big Sur

Mac to which this version is focused

First of all, let me tell you that any Mac that is compatible with macOS Monterey can have this version if it was still at 11.6.3. However, in those cases it is more recommended to upgrade directly to 12.2.1.

This version is mainly focused on computers that no longer updatebeyond Big Sur, finding us these teams:

  • MacBook 2016 and earlier
  • MacBook Air 2014 and earlier
  • MacBook Pro 2014 and earlier
  • 2014 and earlier iMacs

The next one from Monterey, in March

If you have a Mac that does support macOS Monterey, the update you’re most interested in is the 12.3. This is a version that is currently in its second beta for developers and that incorporates interesting new features such as Universal Control to control an iPad with the same keyboard and mouse/trackpad as this one.

Now, its release date does not seem too clear today. Apple does not usually advance these dates but, in line with the rumors of new Macs and with a possible upcoming event, at the middle of March It could be launched definitively for the entire public accompanying iOS 15.4 and other software versions.

It cannot be ruled out that in between we could see an intermediate version that corrects security problems or other bugs that can be reported. In any case, it does not seem to be in Apple’s plans now and this would only happen to integrate only those improvements as we have seen with the recent Big Sur.
