Not many fans of game of Thrones happy with the direction that the HBO series has taken after the fifth season (and even less those who enjoyed the last season), but a new book, Tinderbox: HBO’s Ruthless Pursuit of New Frontiers from James Andrew Miller, revealed that too George RR Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, the saga of novels on which Game of Thrones is based, he was worried about the situation.

The book explains that Martin had some concerns about the series after the fifth season, in particular that the showrunners, Dan Weiss And David Benioff, they weren’t following the author’s plans for the story (and by their own admission, they didn’t know what they were doing).
“George loves Dan and Dave, but after the fifth season he started to be concerned about the path they were going down because George knew where the story was going. He started saying, ‘You are not following my plans.’ The first five seasons stayed true to George’s schedule and then… they went off George’s schedule “Martin’s rep said, Paul Haas.
Like all fans of de A Song of Ice and Fire they know well, the series of novels written by Martin is not yet completed. There are still two empty spaces left in our bookshelves, which will one day be occupied by The Winds of Winter And A Dream of Spring, none of which has been finished yet (or appears to be close to its release).
The fifth and most recent book of the epic saga, A Dance with Dragons, was released in 2011, the year the TV show debuted its first episode. However, Martin had provided the showrunners with an outline – or ‘roadmap’ as explained in the book – showing how the story would evolve and how the series should evolve; although Haas specifies in the book that Martin had not told anyone who would take his place on the Iron Throne at the end of the saga.
