Google Pixel Fold, the most anticipated folding

They have been talking about the Google Pixel Fold for years, a project that Google has been working on for yearsof which throughout this period we have received endless leaks and that, despite the fact that more and more signs pointed to it being presented today at Google I/O 2023, it was not officially confirmed by the company until a few years ago. days, surely in a surrender movement in the face of the enormous volume of information about it that had previously been leaked, information that, to a large extent, has been confirmed today.

But let’s start with the bad (although foreseeable) news first, and that is, At least for the moment, there seem to be no plans for the Google Pixel Fold to arrive in Spain. And I say that it was foreseeable, since our local market is still quite green when it comes to folding smartphones, which could greatly complicate Google’s debut in this category. Thus, while the Pixel 7a has arrived immediately in our country, the (few, I imagine) who were waiting for the arrival of the foldable will have to keep waiting.

This, of course, does not detract from the smartphone, with which Google collaborates in the growth of the folding ecosystem, rowing precisely in the direction of making said market grow and mature, so that one day not so far away it will be possible to get hold of a future iteration of this first Fold of the company. Let’s see, then, what has been cooking in the engineering kitchens of the seeker.

Google Pixel Fold: technical specifications

If you are up to date with folding models, surely the images of this Pixel Fold have reminded you of the Oppo Find N2, as my colleague Juan already pointed out when it was leaked on video, a few weeks ago. During the presentation, especially in the live demonstration of its operation, we have been able to confirm these impressions.

The star of this smartphone is, without a doubt, its folding screen, so it will be what we will talk about first. We talk about a 7.6-inch foldable OLED panel with FullHD+ resolution (2,208 x 1,840 dots in a 6:5 aspect ratio with a density of 380 dots per inch), a refresh rate of up to 120 hertz, HDR compatible (with a brightness of up to 1,000 nits), a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, 24-bit color and always on mode.

The exterior, for its part, is based on a 5.8-inch OLED panel with FullHD + resolution (2,092 x 1,080 dots in a 17.4:9 aspect ratio with a density of 408 dots per inch), a refresh rate of up to 120 hertz, HDR compatible (with a brightness of up to 1,200 nits), a ratio of 1,000,000:1 contrast, 24-bit color, always on mode, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

Once inside, no surprisethis Pixel Fold is powered by a Tensor G2 SoC, the chip that we also find in the Pixel 7 family and in the Pixel Tablet. We are talking about an integrated with octa-core CPU (two Cortex-X1 cores at 2.85 gigahertz, two Cortex-A78 at 2.35 gigahertz and four Cortex-A55 at 1.8 gigahertz), Mali G710 MP7 GPU with 20 cores, Titan M2 security coprocessor and the TPU (Tensor Process Unit), the processing unit dedicated exclusively to functions based on artificial intelligence. It is accompanied by 12 gigabytes of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 or 512 gigabytes of EFS 3.1 storage.

In the connectivity section, we are talking about a smartphone Dual SIM (nanoSIM + eSIM) 5G mmWave + Sub 6GHz, along with WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, geopositioning, NFC and Google Cast in the wireless section. For its part, the USB-C port allows data transfer and also serves to charge its battery 4,821 milliamps, offering 30-watt fast charging capability. However, for those who want to give up cables in this regard as well, it offers a wireless charging function.

When talking about their cameras again we find a peculiarity typical of folding ones, and that is that it has three camerasa main one, located in one of the two covers, a front one on the cover with a screen for when we use the folded smartphone, and another front camera next to the folding screen, for when we use it. The main one is made up of three elementsa wide angle (82 °) of 48 megapixels with a number ƒ / 1.7 that serves as the main sensor, accompanied by an ultra wide angle (121.1 °) of 10.8 megapixels ƒ / 2.2 and a telephoto lens (21.9 ° ) with 5x optical zoom, 10.8 megapixel resolution and ƒ/3.05 number.

For its part, the two front cameras are quite similar. In both cases we find a lens wide angle (84°) and a number ƒ/2. The only difference is found in its resolution, which on the outside it is 9.5 megapixelswhile that of the inner one is 8 megapixels. Obviously, the set of cameras is complemented by all the photographic functions of the Pixel.

As I have already indicated at the beginning, at least for the moment there are no plans for his arrival in Spain.
