Google will improve call filtering on Pixels by making it much more understandable

Google is simplifying the Call Screening tool menu available in Pixel smartphones.

Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro

Pixel’s Call Screen feature lets users know who’s calling and why, before they answer. If you have a compatible device, Google Assistant responds to unknown numbers (not saved in your Contacts) and determines whether they are unwanted or legitimate.

Before, to take full advantage of the benefits of call filtering, you had to choose between four levels of protection depending on whether the number is registered in the database of spammers or whether you have blocked the number on your Android, whether it acts of a possibly false number, that he calls for the 1st time, whether it is private or hidden. As practical as it is, the Call Screen was therefore not so easy to configure correctly. The Mountain View firm has decided to simplify the use of the call filtering tool by reducing the number of levels of protection against unwanted calls to three: Basic, Medium and Maximum.

The new Pixel Call Screening menu is simpler

While these Call Screening settings are slightly less granular than before, they gain clarity. On the one hand, the levels of protection against nuisance calls are grouped together in a new sub-menu called “Protection level”. The Basic level only rejects calls from numbers listed in Google’s spam database, the Medium level filters suspicious calls and declines spam, while the Maximum level also filters unknown numbers.

Google’s new Pixel Call Screening hasn’t not yet rolled out to all devices of the brand because some customers have reported problems with call forwarding. The tool is therefore still subject to change. Note also that the Call Screen has a drawback: if your Pixel answers calls to filter them, charges may apply and call time may be deducted from your contract, depending on your subscription.
