If you want to have WiFi 7, your Windows 10 PC is no longer worth it

Microsoft has decided to kill one of its best operating systems against the “demands” of users. They have recently released Windows 11, which has the slowest adoption known to date. Now, Windows 10 receives a new thrust, in this case, No counting on medium for the new Wi-Fi 7 standard.

This new wireless internet connection standard integrates the new MLO (Multi-Link Operation) technology. It allows the use of different channels simultaneously to transmit data packets.

It will offer us the WiFi 7 standard with support for the frequencies of 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz. It will allow transfer speeds of up to 48 Gbps, slightly more than 4 times higher than WiFi 6. Above all, it focuses on environments where there are a lot of load, such as shopping centers or other spaces with great attendance.

Not supported by Windows 10

Recently, a document regarding the compatibility of the IEEE 802.11be standardwhose trade name is WiFi 7. According to said document, you will receive support from the Windows 11, Linux and ChromeOS operating systems.

There is no reference within the document to the operating system Windows 10, the most widespread today. Furthermore, we know that No there is certified driver to support Wi-Fi 7 on that operating system. So, those who want to use this standard should switch to using Windows 11 as a requirement.

We must emphasize that the IEEE 802.11be standard will not be finalized until the first half of 2024. But, during Gamescom 2023, we have already seen the Asus ROG Rapture GT-BE98 Pro router with support for WiFi 7. There are also rumors of some motherboards that would support this new communications standard.

You have to know that Microsoft has already killed Windows 10. for months already No large packages of updates with improvements, only minor updates are released. Furthermore, we know that your support will end at the end of 2025. Therefore, it is normal that Microsoft goes from supporting WiFi 7, when it has already killed its best operating system.

The incompatibility it will not be only with the controller chips Wi-Fi 7 manufactured by part from intel. Also Qualcomm or MediaTekTwo other major communications chip makers will also not support Windows 10.

Obviously, you may not like the idea very much. The truth is that we will be talking about next-generation components that would already have Windows 11 installed or will be installed on it. Also, we know that Windows 10 has an expiration date, so developing drivers does not seem to make much sense.

Already thinking about Windows 12?

We must remember that the launch of a new Microsoft operating system is expected by the end of 2024. At least, that’s what some rumors are indicating. It is also pointed out that Windows 12 could have artificial intelligence very integrated.

Although the document does not mention this new operating system, obviously the new standard would be supported. It would be one of the great novelties that the new version of this software would have that would arrive by the end of next year.

WiFi 7, however, would still take 2-3 years, after its official launch, to be standardized in the industry. We may see some motherboards supporting it in 2024, but it won’t be integrated into most until next year.
