iOS 16: more of the same, but with new features and improvements

Talking about continuity is usually interpreted in a negative key, when this is not always the case, and in the case of iOS 16, which I will talk about below, I think it is important to clarify that it is one of those cases. And it is that, according to what we can read in MacRumors, the popular and generally correct (although with the price of the iPhone SE 2022 he was far wrong) analyst specialized in Apple, Marc Gurman, would already have information about the future operating system for the iPhone, which Except for surprises, it will be announced and shown at WWDC 2022.

And what does Gurman tell us, when there are still a few months to go before the presentation of iOS 16, to which we must add at least another three more so that the operating system begins to reach users? Well, it seems that continuity on what has already been seen, without a major redesign, although maybe with some changes, but yes, with news related to both notifications and new health monitoring functions.

«Coming to iOS 16, I’m expecting some pretty significant improvements across the board, including an update to notifications and new health tracking features.

I’m not expecting a complete redesign of the iOS 16 interface, although not much has changed since iOS 7 nearly a decade ago.

But there could be a new iPadOS multitasking interface.

iOS 16: more of the same, but with new features and improvements

What he raises regarding the design of iOS 16, of the operating system interface, is not something that surprises me, and it is something that I recognize is logical, although it saddens me in part. And it is that, much to its regret, Microsoft showed us, with Windows 8, what can happen if you intend to be truly revolutionary in terms of interface changes. And it is that I have always said it and I will keep it that way: Modern UI was a very brave commitment to unification and to the future. With improvable aspects? Okay, but innovative, brave and successful. But, at the same time, an absolute failure.

With that learning, what became clear is that heUsers, as a general rule, prefer continuity, the comfort of “business as usual” in the face of changes, however justified they may be. And given the capital importance of the iPhone in Apple accounts, the most normal thing in the world is that they prefer to opt for adding small changes and improvements to the interface, instead of carrying out an absolute redesign. It is also true that, if we can expect something like this from someone, it would be from Apple, but it is always easier to bet with other people’s money than with your own.

A) Yes, we will continue in the design line, with some improvements, that we have been seeing since iOS 7, launched on September 18, 2013, which, however, has been gaining elements, among which the belated and long-awaited widgets stand out, which had been present on Android for so long. iOS 16 will grow in functions, which is something that we could already expect even without Gurman’s prediction, but the interesting thing will be to see, mainly, what they translate into in terms of notifications. What will these innovations consist of?
