Marvel series will very soon disappear from Netflix

Be careful, you only have a few days left to enjoy Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist or The Punisher on Netflix. These series will soon disappear, but to go where?

It’s not really a surprise, but the formalization remains a small event. A short distance from the exit of Moon Knight and of Doctor Strange 2, Netflix confirms that several Marvel series will leave its platform. As of February 28, six series will disappear from the catalog of the famous platform. In this list we find Daredevil (3 seasons, 39 episodes), Jessica Jones (3 seasons, 39 episodes), Luke Cage (2 seasons, 26 episodes), Iron Fist (2 seasons, 23 episodes), The Defenders (8 episodes) and The Punisher (2 seasons, 26 episodes). In total, there are therefore nearly 160 episodes that have contributed to the notoriety of the platform.

Before the arrival of Disney +, Netflix had managed to impose itself on the Marvel license. If his series had mixed fortunes, they accompanied the platform before being canceled. The stoppage of Jessica Jones and The Punisher, in 2019, marked the end of the partnership between Netflix and Marvel. Behind these decisions, we can see a breathlessness of certain series and especially the shadow of a giant with big ears. Owner of the Marvel universe, Disney has made a more than remarkable entry into the world of video streaming with Disney+.

Netflix is cleaning up on February 28

The platform also relies heavily on the Marvel license; as evidenced by the arrival of several series in 2021 such as Loki. On the other hand, the firm of Mickey had to wait before recovering the entire Marvel catalog from Netflix. An agreement between Disney and the Los Gatos firm included a clause to prevent characters from its series from ending up in content other than Netflix.

Finally, Netflix will stop fees at the end of the month by removing all of its Marvel series. An alert message also appears when you launch an episode for the first time:

The website polygon also notes that this change comes just after the appearance of some characters from the Netflix series in the MCU. Charlie Cox (Dardevil) was seen in Spider-Man: No Way Homewhile Vincent D’Onofrio played Kingpin in the series Hawkeye on Disney+. It was therefore time for Netflix to turn the page, but some questions remain unanswered. Indeed, we do not yet know what will become of his six series.

What future for Netflix’s Marvel series?

The appearance of Matt Murdock (aka Daredevil, played by Charlie Cox) in Spider-Man: No Way Home suggests that Disney has plans for several characters from Netflix. Nevertheless, the dark and violent universe of the series does not correspond to Disney’s expectations for the Marvel universe. We can therefore expect a reboot or a presence in Star, the more mature section of Disney+. A seat on the side of the Hulu service is also possible; with the risk of no longer being able to access Daredevil and company from France.

As you will have understood, it is likely to see these series or their characters find a place in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. The entertainment giant’s platform would take the opportunity to add content and get even closer to Netflix. In 2018, Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, spoke about the licenses transferred to third parties: ” [Disney+] must be the destination for all Disney content, which means that we ultimately disengage from the availability of our products anywhere other than our channels. »
