Meta low, a lot, the price of the Meta Quest Pro

Not even five months have passed since the presentation of Meta Quest Pro, its impressive virtual reality viewer. We already said it at the time and we insist now, we are talking about a high-end device, surely capable of measuring itself with dignity with the long-awaited virtual reality viewer from Apple. Just take a look at its technical specifications to see that this device has raised what we consider to be the top of the range in its market.

Remember that Meta Quest Pro has two Mini-LED screenseach one with a FullHD resolution (1,920 x 1,080) with a refresh rate that can reach 90 hertz, and that inside we find a SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ accompanied by de 12 gigabytes of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 gigabytes of storage. But not all are virtues, beware, we must also remember Meta estimated her autonomy between 60 and 90 minutes.

However, if there is something that led to long conversations about the Pro viewer from Meta, it was, without a doubt, its price, from 1,499.99 dollars in the United States, and that magically becomes 1,799.99 euros when crossing the Atlantic. A very high price, on both shores, which could be sustained if Meta’s commitment to the metaverse had gone well. The problem is that, as you already know, the metaverse is still a medium-long term project and their numbers, especially those concerning Meta, are much lower than they would have liked.

Meta low, a lot, the price of the Meta Quest Pro

Thus, as we can read in Engadget, Meta is dropping the price of the Meta Quest Pro from $1,499.99 to $999. If we access the Meta online store now, we will still see the initial price, since the drop in it will be applied from the day after tomorrow, March 5. The cited source is a post by Mark Zuckerberg on an Instagram channel, so the source certainly seems pretty reliable.

The reason given by Zuckerberg for this substantial price reduction is… well, what we could already imagine, to help «more people enter virtual reality«. And it is perfectly logical that he wants more people to jump into it, since at the moment the Metaverse is still as sad and empty as it was a few months ago, and given the monstrous investment made so far, at a terrible cost for the company, any measure involving some growth should be more than welcome.

Of course, a price drop is only effective if potential customers have a certain perception of value of what is offered to them. And that is the biggest problem for Meta, because although the Meta Quest Pro are technically a top-of-the-range device, the prospects for using them are not, far from it, so positive.
