Microsoft OneDrive, a look at the latest news

OneDrive is one of the most important “pieces” that make up Microsoft 365, not only because it offers very interesting payment options, but also because we can get 5 GB of free storage just for subscribing. That amount of cloud storage may not be enough for some professional profiles, but for others it can more than cover their needs, especially if they work only with documents and other light and “flat” files (without images).

Microsoft is aware of the role that OneDrive plays, and that is why it has continuously worked to improve its features and introduce new functions that make it an increasingly interesting solution. Among the most interesting novelties that Microsoft has introduced during the second quarter of the year in One Drive we can highlight the “Your Teams” section, which gives us quick access to files uploaded from Microsoft Teams.

Another interesting function is the one that allows users to delete large folders with up to 10,000 items in one go. Thanks to this new feature we can more easily manage large groups of files, and without wasting time. The ability to leave comments on video and audio files stored through Microsoft Stream was another very positive feedback.

In May, Microsoft introduced in OneDrive the possibility of switch between work and personal OneDrive accounts, something that is also available in more Microsoft 365 web applications. On the other hand, the Redmond company also added a new drop-down menu that allows us to quickly switch between the document libraries associated with Teams and SharePoint, and gave the possibility to pin libraries shares to the “Quick Access” section in the navigation bar.

Other functions of interest that we should not overlook, and which arrived in June, are the possibility to add a shortcut to OneDrive in Microsoft Teams, exploring files from the Themes channel in OneDrive, OneDrive sync management reports for macOS, the option to rename shortcuts added to OneDrive, access to files stored in Teams standard and private channels, automatic generation of subtitles in Microsoft Stream videos and OneDrive File Picker v8.
