The Google Pixel Fold is coming! The first images and the first information of the foldable smartphone have just been released on the Web, and we even already know the probable price. So, what to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Fold?
If certain manufacturers such as Samsung, Huawei or even Motorola have launched themselves fully into the market for folding smartphones, others are still hesitant. We are thinking in particular of Apple and Google. But the latter would be about to release its first foldable, as evidenced by the first visuals and the first information concerning the Pixel Fold which just leaked on the Front Page Tech YouTube channel.
The Google Pixel Fold is therefore revealed from all angles. As expected, Google has opted for a smartphone that opens “book style” rather than a clamshell device like the Galaxy Z Flip 4 or the Motorola Razr of 2022. Clearly, the Galaxy Fold directly attacks the Galaxy Z Fold 4 from Samsung and other Mate Xs 2 from Huawei.
Google’s first foldable smartphone unveiled in pictures
On the first renderings that the FPT account has just published, we can get a fairly precise idea of what the Pixel Fold will look like. The device will have a fairly prominent photo block at the back, all in length and with rounded corners. Google has obviously chosen to use a design similar to those of Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, without opting for a different color for the photo block.
The second part of the back of the device is composed of a screen which covers almost the entirety. Enough to allow full use of the smartphone when it is closed, like any conventional phone. This part of the smartphone incorporates a punch, in which the front camera is housed. As for the fingerprint sensor, it is located in the ignition button of the device.
Once the device is open, it gives an impression of display size like you don’t find on current foldables… And this, despite fairly wide borders. Note in passing that the front camera is not placed in a punch or integrated under the screen. It is actually located at the back of the device (or at the front once the smartphone is closed).
On the audio distribution side, the device will be based on two speakers, one located on the upper edge and the other on the lower edge, which should ensure a well-balanced stereo. Finally, on the performance side, if nothing has really been formalized yet, we can expect a Tensor G2, the same SoC that already equips the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. As usual, nothing has yet been formalized by Google, but this information seems most credible given the seriousness of the YouTube channel FPT.
The smartphone should be displayed at the price of $1,799. The device should be marketed in two colors: white (Chalk) or black (Obsidian). The Pixel Fold is expected to be announced starting in May 2023at the next Google I/O.
