Tap to Pay on Android turns mobile phones into a powerful payment terminal

Tap to Pay on Android is a new functionality, developed by Square, which has been in Spain for a few weeks. This technology allows both businesses and freelancers accept contactless payments easily and securely with just one compatible Android device, and at no additional cost.

With these digital payments, Square makes it even easier for small businesses just starting out and those already established to shop in-person. Using a compatible Android device, sellers simply open one of the Square apps, such as Square POS, Square Appointments, Square for restaurants or Square Invoices, Enter the amount to be paid and bring your phone closer to the customer. The customer will see the total amount to be paid together with the already usual contactless payment symbol and can choose to complete the payment with a credit or debit card or with a digital wallet such as Google Pay.

«We run a small cafeteria in Madrid where we have a high turnover of customers. For us, Tap to Pay on Android is a way to optimize payment times. It’s fast and we only need a mobile. Very practical and hassle-free, both for us and for our customers”says Almudena Duque, owner of FAITH OF COFFEE in Madrid.

Tap to Pay on Android offers businesses a flexible mobile solution that meets current preferences of consumers for contactless payment methods. Square’s software also benefits customers by providing a seamless and easy checkout experience and enabling them to complete their purchase securely. Tap to Pay on Android uses the security mechanisms inherent in the Square platform to keep merchant and customer data private and secure. When a payment is processed, no card numbers are stored on merchant phones, in accordance with Square’s high security standards.

digitization for all

«With the launch of Tap to Pay on Android we are further lowering the barriers to entry for merchants of all sizes. No hardware purchase is necessary to start accepting payments, so business owners can make a sale on the go simply using a device most of us regularly carry with us: our mobile.”comment Gonzalo Saenz, Sales Director of Square in Spain.
