Season 3 of The Boys on Amazon Prime Video is now behind us… But what do the superhero hunters have in store for us for season 4? Here’s everything we know so far.
That’s it, the big season of new series and big comebacks on our screens is behind us. Many have been disappointed by some newcomers like Ms Marvel, or have found the return of shows like Umbrella Academy to be very… shy. The one who is far from disappointing and continues to give to all her fans is none other than The Boys, which closed an excellent season 3 without disappointing the expectations of comic book readers as well as simple spectators of the series. Amazon Prime Video has its golden goose, and does not expect to let go of it on such a good path. If like us, you are impatiently awaiting season 4 of The Boys, here is all the information we have about it.
What is the release date for The Boys season 4?
We are still at the very beginning of the process, so we will have to be patient. Amazon obviously renewed the series for a season 4 at the end of season 3. The showrunner of The Boys, Eric Kripke, indicated that his teams were in the scriptwriting phase during the month of June 2022.
Today we can see on social media that the main actors of The Boys are gradually meeting in Toronto, where the filming of the episodes is done. Karl Urban, who plays Billy The Butcher, confirmed that the resumption of filming was scheduled for the end of August, the 22 precisely, but it seems that some other actors have already started. Chase Crawford (The Deep) and Antony Starr (Homelander) are already there!
All this to say that if we follow the usual schedules of major productions of this kind, we can count on a release of season 4 of The Boys at the earliest end of 2023, but surely at the beginning of the year 2024. Courage !
Which characters will be in season 4?
As of now, we haven’t really had word of any new actors being added to The Boys cast. We can therefore expect the return of Karl Urban, Antony Starr, Jack Quaid, Karen Fukuhara, Erin Moriarty, Colby Minifie, Laz Alonso, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone and Cameron Crovetti in their respective roles.
Jensen Ackles, who plays Soldier Boy in season 3, shouldn’t be part of the lot… yet. Eric Kripke has already announced that he won’t be returning anytime soon, although the character is not dead and is expected to make another appearance before the end of the series. He’s just on the bench.
It is interesting to note that if the Black Noir that we knew until then is dead, this is not the case of the superhero. The ultra-sophisticated jumpsuit will be taken over by the actor Nathan Mitchell in the upcoming season, but we don’t yet know what will happen to the character himself.
What storyline will Season 4 of The Boys have?
Eric Kripke has already given us an outline of what will happen to the show’s storyline on Season 4 via several interviews for TVLine and Entertainment Weekly.
We saw the premises of this in season 3 of the series, and season 4 will play on this: the world will be divided into two opposing camps. To make it short, we could say that there will be Camp Homelander vs. Camp Starlight.
In previous seasons, Starlight separated from her family ties, her faith, and stood up against Homelander’s Seven publicly. With the departure of Maeve, she lost her last model and is now totally independent and autonomous.
Homelander for his part emerged victorious from season 3. He will be free to reform the Seven in his image, which is going to be a focal point of the start of the season. Above all, he now has under his wing Ryan, whose small smile in the face of the assassination of a Starlight supporter at the end of the last season says everything that needs to be said about his future.
It is also on this point that season 4 should be oriented. The battle between Butcher and Homelander will always be more violent while the former still has his promise to keep and a child to protect. But does he still just want to be? The problem is that the little boy’s powers are similar to Homelander’s. If he were allied with him, the rise of an unprecedented dictatorship would be almost inevitable.
Let’s also not forget that Butcher is now near death. The parallels between his relationship with his own father, seen ill in previous seasons, and his situation in Season 4 are easy to draw. We hope that this time he will not make the same mistake again. As for Hughie, he too should suffer the repercussions of his use of the temporary V, although on a lesser scale. For his part, it is surely his relationship with Annie which will be turned upside down even more by future episodes.
Will there be a crossover with The Boys Gen V?
The Boys Gen Vor The Boys Varsity, is a spin-off of the series scheduled for a series during the year 2023. It should normally intersperse in the world of the series between season 3 and season 4and will take place in a university run by Vought International, where the heroes must survive in the manner of a Hunger Games.
As such, Eric Kripke said that it would take up some of the political and cultural issues already highlighted on season 3 of The Boys, but should also set up plot elements that will be taken up during the season. 4.
