the film with Jared Leto will not be released in January

A few days before its release on the big screen, Morbius is again pushed back. The Sony Pictures film will not finally land until next April.

It was the meeting of the beginning of the year for Sony Pictures. After the hurricane Spiderman, which is still sweeping theaters around the world, the studios had to delve deeper into the mythology of the webweaver alongside one of his most famous antagonists on paper. Morbius, with Jared Leto in the lead role, was promised to be the superheroic date of January, as DC and Marvel are subscribers absent in this first month of the year.

A rather comfortable position that the firm ultimately will not exploit. According to Deadline, Sony has just postponed the release of Morbius as of April 1, 2022 in the United States. This means that it will not land before March 30, 2022 in our green regions.

Do not step on Spidey’s flower beds

If we could imagine that it was the arrival of the Omicron variant that had motivated Sony’s decision, the reason would be quite different according to Deadline. A source familiar with the matter would have confided to the American media that it is the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home which would ultimately be involved. In order not to short-circuit its latest film, Sony Pictures has finally decided to take a little delay. A few months, which will undoubtedly allow Peter Parker to beat a new record, after having established himself as the biggest success of the year 2021.

A film that intrigues as much as it worries

Sony wants to develop its own cinematic universe, inspired by characters from the mythology of Spider-Man at Marvel. A vast saga which has so far struggled to impose itself, especially after two opus of Venom particularly disappointing, if not completely missing the point. If Spider-Man seems to be the only one doing pretty well, Morbius could be synonymous with renewal for the license.

However, Jared Leto’s latest foray into the world of superheroes does not really reassure fans of the genre. In front of the camera of David Ayer, the actor had camped a Joker a bit cartoonish, in a film considered one of the worst of the genre for a long time. We can only hope that this time he will pay tribute to the character he plays, under the direction of Daniel Espinosa. The director of Life – Unknown Origin should deliver us a real monster film, on the border between the fantastic and the action film.

As a reminder, Morbius will follow the adventures of a doctor suffering from a rare blood disease who, in a last hope of saving the victims of this pathology, will develop a serum that could potentially cure him. But this remedy could potentially be more dangerous than the disease itself …

Appointment on Next march 30 in dark rooms, to find out if the promise will be kept.
