The Galaxy S23 would be better at gaming than the iPhone 14 Pro, according to a benchmark

Smartphones equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor are not expected until next month, but we now know a little more about the performance of their graphics chip.

A few days ago, we were able to discover a first Geekbench benchmark of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on a Galaxy S23, which already gave some indications on the performance of the chip. As a reminder, Qualcomm is expected to announce the new processor at a conference in Hawaii on November 15.

The leaker Ice Universe had previously revealed that the processor intended for Android smartphones in 2023 would use a slightly different configuration this year for the CPU part, since we will find one core (Cortex-X3) clocked at 3.36 GHz, four cores (two Cortex-A715 and two Cortex-A710) clocked at 2.8 GHz as well as three cores (Cortex-A510) clocked at 2.0 GHz. The chip therefore promises to be a lot more powerful than the previous generation thanks to higher frequenciesand we now know more about the graphic part.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 GPU would be more powerful than that of the A16 chip

On the Chinese social network Weibo, the famous leaker Digital Chat Station revealed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 had reached 217 fps on the GFXBench benchmark. The SoC’s GPU, an Adreno 740, would therefore be the fastest on the market.

In comparison, Apple’s latest chip in the iPhone 14 Pro, the A16 Bionic, does not exceed 195 fps on the same benchmark. The leaker also reveals that the Dimensity 9200, MediaTek’s next high-end chip, does even worse with “only” 176 fps. The lead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on the benchmark is therefore considerable compared to its direct competitors, which should mean that Android smartphones will offer better performance in video games.

Even if the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 does not reach the performance of Apple’s A16 chip at the CPU level, it seems that 2023 Android smartphones will benefit from a much more powerful GPU. We can therefore expect smartphones such as the Xiaomi 13, the Galaxy S23, the OnePlus 11 or the Oppo Find X6 Pro to be more interesting in gaming than the latest Apple iPhones.
