Bard is the successor to Google Assistant, the new Artificial Intelligence from the search engine giant with which it intends to revolutionize Internet searches and, above all, not to be left behind in the AI war. It is true that all alternatives to ChatGPT they are still light years behind the OpenAI solution. Google seems to have taken its job seriously, though, and last week announced a series of game-changing innovations that are sure to give Bard a distinct advantage. Today we are going to collect and analyze them.
OpenAI launched its ChatGPT last year, taking all the big companies that had been working on AI for a long time, such as Google or Microsoft, by surprise. In a matter of days, this Artificial Intelligence gained millions of users, and was positioned as the most advanced and revolutionary AI. Google and Microsoft got their act together so as not to be left behind in the Artificial Intelligence war. And even Elon Musk asked OpenAI to stop working on its AI (which, thankfully, they didn’t, as the Tesla and Twitter mogul was secretly working on his own AI and wanted to get the upper hand through deception, like other times).
While Microsoft has to bingchat a little forgotten, and with a lot of work ahead (since it is extremely slow and frustrating), and Musk has not given information about his new AI, Google has presented Bard’s improvements for this year, improvements with which you can look face to face with all your rivals. Let’s go see them.
Bard’s news from Google I/O 2023
The first of the novelties that Google announced for its AI is that, finally, becomes available to everyone, without waiting lists. Of course, for legal reasons, some countries (among them, all those of the European Union) have not yet enabled access to this AI, and it is necessary to resort to a VPN to be able to connect to this AI through one of the 180 countries where it is already operating normally.
Although Bard’s interface remains the same as we have seen in the past, what Google has done is listen to the community and add a dark theme. This theme helps make reading AI-generated text much more comfortable in low-light situations. A novelty that seems irrelevant but that many users ask for.
Many improvements have also been included in what is the core of the AI thanks to the arrival of the PaLM2 language model. For example, bard integrates with other Google products, in addition to being able to work with third-party plugins. In this way it is possible to interact with the AI in our mail, in Google Docs or Sheets, or in Google Maps. Also, they are the necessary plugins, we will be able to access all kinds of information from other services and other platforms. Another core enhancement is the ability to recognize and read images. This function, powered by Google Lens, can describe what appears in an image, something very useful, especially in terms of accessibility. And, of course, now he is able to generate images from textsomething that is possible thanks to its integration within Adobe Firefly.
Source code generation has also been greatly improved, making it possible to generate much more precise and exact lines of code, using security as a base. With this, it wants to compete directly with Copilot and ChatGPT, the two most used platforms for programming. It still has to improve a bit, but compared to the previous version, the improvement is more than noticeable.
And finally, Google has included a function within Bard that will allow us to export generated contenteither through a Doc, in Gmail, or to third-party services.
When do you arrive in Spain?
As we have anticipated, in Spain, as in other countries of the European Union, there are problems with the issue of privacy and the use of data by Artificial Intelligence. ChatGPT has already suffered from it in Italy (and is pending in other countries), and Google is suffering from it.
I’m sure Bard will come to our country sooner or later. But, for the moment, we do not know when he will be able to be. We only have to wait, or enter through a VPN to be able to use this AI from now on.
