This new feature of the iPad is more important than it seems

With the arrival of iPadOS 17, some features and functions have been improved and added to the Health app. And in today’s post we introduce you to one of them, which has to do with how we interact with our devices. A prevention tool, which is more important than it seems at first sight. So if you want to know what it consists of, here we tell you what it is about.

Eye Health function can change habits

When the smallest of the house use the iPad, many times they are not aware of how close they can get to the screen. And it is that, taking care of the eyes is essential from a very young age. Apple is aware that more and more infants are facing an iPad and, with the aim of preserving eye health, they have launched this function.

As the company describes on its official website, this function “can help reduce the risk of myopia in infantsencouraging them to spend more time outside in daylight, and increasing their viewing distance from the iPad.”

And how is the iPad able to detect the distance at which we are using it? In this case takes advantage of the TrueDepth camera that we already have in some models, to identify ourselves through FaceID. And what is the distance at which the iPad is going to consider as “safe” in terms of vision? Apple’s website explains that it will be about 30 centimeters (according to the American unit of measurement “foot”, one foot, which is equal to 30.48 centimeters in the international metric system).

Being able to control the distance at which the iPad is used, and that parents can control through the Apple ID and the Health app is an extra step in terms of regulating the use of these devices. In addition to the importance that this implies, in order to preserve eye health, as they are equipment with which you can interact for many hours. In the end, it is about becoming aware of the proper use of these tools, and it is something that the apple company has been taking very seriously in recent years. An awareness that is reflected in the implementation of this type of tools.

If we want to activate the Eye Health function, we are going to need a series of requirements, both at the hardware and software level.
