Microsoft wants to improve the durability of PCs under Windows 11 and has added a new section in the Settings of its operating system for this. Called “Sustainability”, the purpose of this guide is to advise the user on methods for saving energy or even for recycling their device. It is not yet available in beta.
Microsoft obviously has several new features in its bag for Windows 11 since, just after teasing the arrival of desktop stickers, the Redmond firm is testing a new section for Settings internally. This starts from an observation: we spend more and more time on our computersand this is all the more true since the launch of Windows 11. The machines therefore necessarily wear out more quickly, and do not always have the opportunity to have a second life.
This is why Windows 11 Settings should soon have a ” sustainabilityfor “sustainability”. Discovered by Albacore (@thebookisclosed) on Twitter, this one seems to take energy saving very seriously. Thus, it is possible to activate the economy settings by default, but it does not stop there. If desired, the user can benefit from specific advice to increase the lifespan of your PC.

So, in a section called “Advanced saving recommendations”, the operating system offers to“to examine the parameters likely to have a greater impact on users in order to find other means of saving energy”. Finally, when despite everything the life of the PC in question comes to an end, Windows 11 sends you to a page of advice for learn how to properly recycle your machine.

For now, Microsoft does not appear to have rolled out the feature to Insiders members. It has, therefore, no launch date planned for the general public. It is therefore possible that it will never see the light of day. Nevertheless, in view ofthe growing interest of users for environmental issueswhat’s more the impact of digital on it, it is likely that Microsoft is positioning itself permanently – no pun intended – on the subject.
