Windows 7 paid support ends on January 10

We have been working with paid support for Windows 7 for years, in fact Germany was one of the first countries that had to resort to it to avoid problems after the end of official support for said operating system. In the end, these types of measures by Microsoft they are no longer a temporary patch to help those sectors that have not been able, or have not wanted, to prepare in time the transition to a more current operating system.

However, there are companies and entities that do not take it as such, and that even after two years of paid support still do not have a prepared transition plan, and that in the end they end up being forced to continue using an operating system without support. . The great success of Windows 7 was key in this sense, and it is that many companies and professionals made the leap to said operating system at the time, and adapted their infrastructure and applications to it.

To update to another operating system it is necessary, in many cases, make a very important investment both in applications and infrastructure, and maybe on other fronts as well, such as consulting and security. This context allows us to understand why there are companies that prefer to pay directly for extended support, and why there are others that are willing to continue using Windows 7 even if it is no longer supported.

The fact is that, as planned, the extended payment support will come to an end just tomorrow, January 10, 2023. As of that date, it will no longer receive updates, which means that the last patch that will reach this operating system will be the one that Microsoft will also release tomorrow, and that will be focused on security and bug fixes.

If you use Windows 7 and you are not ready to transition to a newer operating system, you should start to consider it, since maintaining an unsupported operating system it’s a time bomb that it could “explode” at any time, and the consequences could be very serious.
