Xiaomi Book S, the premiere of the Chinese brand in 2 in 1

Xiaomi Book S will be the first 2 in 1 with Windows Chinese brand. A tablet with a keyboard and mouse, interesting features, Windows 11 pre-installed and a price that we can consider moderate, which is not as attractive as that of its mobiles.

There is no shortage of good 2-in-1s, as we recently saw in the update of our buying guide for a segment where models such as Microsoft’s Surface Pro 8, Apple’s iPad Pro or Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 stand out. But there are other players who want a piece of the cake and Xiaomi has already shown what it can do with everything it sells.

Xiaomi Book S, features

Presented together with several new products such as the Mi Band 7 bracelet, we are faced with a typical 2-in-1. We have already said that this type of product is located a short distance from the tablet, but it must offer more than these, until it reaches the capacity to replace a portable computer in mobility and on the desktop due to size, performance, connectivity and software.

The Xiaomi model is based on a tablet with an aluminum and magnesium chassis (8.95 mm and 720 grams) and a multi-touch LCD screen of 12.4 inches diagonal, with a 2K resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, 16:10 aspect ratio, 60 Hz refresh rate and 500 nits of brightness. The screen is coated with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and supports 100% of the sRGB color gamut.

It is powered by a Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2, manufactured in 7nm processes and composed of an octa-core CPU and Adreno 680 graphics. It is not the latest from Qualcomm for Windows on ARM since last December it presented Gen3. Either Xiaomi has not arrived in time to use it or it intends to save costs.

The chip is combined with 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and a 256 GB SSD. It has Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera, a memory card slot, and a USB-C port for data and charging via a 65-watt fast charger. It has stereo speakers, dual microphones, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Alongside the tablet, Xiaomi will offer two optional accessories, a full-size magnetic keyboard with 1.3mm wide keys with a 1.5mm height to improve typing usability, and a stylus with 240 Hz sampling rate and 4096 pressure levels.

With Windows 11 pre-installed, the Xiaomi Book S will be available from June 30 with an official price in Europe of €699. It is not bad, although its price is not as attractive as that of its smartphones. Here Xiaomi has great competition, starting with the iPad, continuing with the high-end Samsung and if we talk about Windows, with Microsoft’s own Surface.
