Evolution of macOS throughout history

Despite already being one of the most important powers in technology, however, one of its great problems is that multitasking was not implemented. In version system 7 color arrived, which was a big change, and it already required a computer with a hard drive, since it was too big. The next versions released, macOS 8 in 1997 and macOS 9 in 1999, introduced a new visual style, and served as a transition to macOS X.

already in the year 2000 macOS X was presented, which brought with it a radical change towards the new interface, which they called Aqua, giving rise to a renewed and more modern operating system. From that moment on, the following versions would be called by the name of big cats.

These have been the biggest changes

This was the first time that Apple called its computer operating system with a feline name, and it was maintained with the different updates. It was with macOS X 10.0 Cheetah, which came out in 2001 and included control buttons in the upper left corner of applications, and the Dock, which from then on is the place from which applications are organized and launched. A few years later, with the evolution to macOS X 10.4 “Tiger”, the system was introduced. spot light to search for any type of content, and the dashboard with widgets for quick access to certain information. In 2006, macOS X 10.5 “Leopard” was released, which was the first version compatible with Intel technology, and in addition to that it brought other new features such as timemachine where you can save backups and a redesign of the Dock.

In the 2010s, macOS X 10.7 “Lion” arrived, which had an application manager called Launchpad and the option of full-screen applications, and the App Store appeared. With the updates of the following years (mmacOS X 10.9 Mavericks from 2013, macOS X 10.10 Yosemite from 2014, and macOS X 10.11 El Capitan of 2015) and with these versions Apple abandons the names of big cats, and their names from then on will be from places in California. With Yosemite there is a change towards a flatter design, and in “El Capitan” the option is included SplitViewwhich allows you to split the screen and use two applications simultaneously.

The following decade, by 2020 with the arrival of macOS 11 Big Sur, which is one of the latest versions, is characterized above all by a major redesign. And it is that Apple’s intention is to unify the design language of all its operating systems. In this way it will be much easier for those users who have an ecosystem of the company, since they will all be similar and it will facilitate some tasks.
