Goodbye to Gunther from Friends: actor James Michael Tyler has died

A television icon of the 90s, the American actor, is leaving James Michael Tyler known for playing the character of Gunther in Friends.

Tyler, who passed away yesterday at the age of 59, unfortunately lost his long battle against prostate cancer now in its fourth stage, as revealed by his family.

The actor had revealed that he was seriously ill only some time ago, justifying the impossibility of participating, if not with a simple remote connection via Zoom, in the reunion special of the cast of Friends.

I wanted to be a part of it and in a different situation I would be with them in the studio and take part in all the celebrations. It was bittersweet for me, but I was very happy that I was included.

In the famous sitcom James Michael Tyler, who appeared for 148 episodes, he played the role of Gunther, the owner of the Central Perk secretly in love with Rachel Greene (Jennifer Aniston).

The most touching messages of condolence came from his former colleagues and co-stars of the famous TV series.

Friends wouldn’t have been the same without you. Thanks for the laughs you brought to the show and to all of our lives. We will miss you very much James.

James, thank you for playing such a wonderful and unforgettable role in Friends and for being such a big hearted gentleman and off-screen handyman. We will miss you, friend.

The magnitude of the gratitude you brought to the show and showed every day on set is equal to the magnitude of the gratitude I have for knowing you. Rest in peace James.
