It is more than likely that many of you have ever heard of these hardware devices or have one at home. Actually, it is a small-sized computer based on free hardware. At first it was designed to work based on a Linux operating system.
Here we can use a huge amount of software that allows users to set up their own personal storage server, media center either vintage console. We are talking about an affordable and easy device to start up, although lately it has risen in price significantly. Likewise, it offers us surprising power in most cases to take advantage of the multiple modes of use that we are discussing.
We have the possibility of installing a multitude of operating systems, many of them based on Linux. This can become a serious problem for some, so there comes a point where they wonder if they can install and work here with windows. We are talking about the most widespread and used operating system in the desktop computers. That is precisely why many of those who start working on a Raspberry Pi wonder about this issue.
Well, for all those who at some point have considered the possibility that we are talking about, we will say yes. It is possible to install and work with Windows on a Raspberry Pi, and the process as such is not complicated at all.
What do I need to install Windows on a Raspberry Pi
In spite of everything, it is something that we do not recommend too much, since Windows has been designed to work conveniently on other types of hardware. In addition, a series of modifications have to be made in the microsoft system so that it works on these small plates without problems. It must also be taken into account that the minimum requirements requested by a Windows system are usually much higher than those of Linux.
But with everything and with it if we ask ourselves the question that, if we can do it, the answer is affirmative. To give you an idea of what awaits you, these are the requirements to be able to install Windows on a Raspberry Pi:
- Have a Raspberry Pi 4 that has 4 and 8 GB of RAM, preferably the second modality. It would be worth it with the Raspberry Pi 400.
- A monitor with an HDMI connector.
- Ethernet cable to connect the Raspberry to the Internet.
- Keyboard and mouse.
- A Windows ISO.
- The open source program WoR-Flasher with which we are going to create the Windows installation media for this device.
Have an external SSD disk or a micro-SD card of at least 32 GB. It is preferable to use the first one to improve the data transfer.
From there we will have the possibility of installing a Windows system on our Raspberry Pi. What we must take into consideration is that the operation of the operating system will not be the same, far from it, that we normally obtain on a conventional desktop PC.
