Chalamet’s Favor as Wonka
Seeing the actor dressed in Willy Wonka’s own clothing – below these lines – has generated reactions of all kinds. Social networks burn after having seen Chalamet characterized and at the moment there are opinions of all kinds both in favor (the majority, everything has to be said) and against this choice for the role.
These are the arguments that we believe best defend Timothée’s leading role in the prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Have that different point (a la Johnny Depp)
If you think of Willy Wonka, the image that comes to mind is that of Johnny Depp. The charismatic actor was able to give the character a unique character, thanks to the American’s own physique (together with a great wardrobe and makeup, of course) and that particular and eccentric aura that he has.
Chalamet may not get to the point outlandish of Deep (for now, he is too young), but he does have a different touch in his physique and even style, far from the conventions of Hollywood. You just have to take a look at how he usually dresses on the red carpet to realize that Timothée has quite a different personality, and that fits perfectly with the unique appearance of our Wonka.
Is in fashion
No more. Timothée Chalamet is in fashion and that always works in favor of the box office claim. The good choice of his works together with an attractive physique (and again, we point out, different from the usual in Hollywood) has made Chalamet one of the most followed and trending actors of the moment between the millennials and generation Z. He is charismatic and generally funny in interviews, which has helped his legion of fans to be faithful and numerous, very numerous.
Undoubtedly this will make many those who were not attracted to the character’s story go to the movies just to see their admired actor on screen.
It is endorsed by a good interpretive record
There are cases in which certain actors and actresses become very fashionable even though their interpretive abilities are… of doubtful quality. This is not the case at all with Timothée Chalamet. The young man has known how to choose his characters very well throughout his short career and in many he has stood out in a particular way.
It is the case of the beautiful movie Call me by your name (the tape with which the most nominations and awards has received) with which he even came to be in options to win the Oscar in 2017. The film Beautiful boy It has also served to accumulate nominations for the Bafta or the Golden Globes as well as Lady bird, where he was also recognized as one of the best supporting actors of the season with his nomination by the Actors Guild.
Against Timothée as Willy Wonka
Just as there are good reasons to applaud this choice, there are also other reasons why you may not be the most suitable actor. We do not say it, eye, but some sectors (minority, yes) that suggest that another actor could have better fit the particular character. And they do it mainly on the basis of an argument.
Does it sexualize the character?
Believe it or not, some believe that the choice of Chalamet sexualizes a character that has always been associated with children. After all, Timothée is a man attractive (for many), young and with a good legion of fans who adore him for his physique more than for his work.
Before we pointed out that it is not the typical face of Hollywood and that, without a doubt, is something in favor, but some think that it is not enough and that the attractiveness that awakens in many will distort the character to such an extent that who knows if in the future it will be Jason Momoa (Aquaman) who gives life – yes, that has been said.
On the net it is already possible to read several articles in which it is questioned whether Chalamet is too “sexy” to give life to William Wonka and if they could be counterproductive to its success.
And to you, what do you think of this choice?
