MSI concludes its CES with the latest addition to the Aegis range, but also new hardware including motherboards, GPUSs and peripherals.
After presenting its new range of laptops for gamers, MSI returns with its proposals for the desktop world. On the menu: newcomers to the Aegis and Trident ranges, but also a new 4K screen and new components ranging from motherboards to graphics cards.
MAG Trident S 5M: MSI is also preparing local cloud
Let’s start with the most interesting announcement, which is certainly that of the MAG Trident S 5M. This machine is presented as “a cloud game console”, which would allow this technology to be taken advantage of “simply by using a joystick”.
An extremely nebulous formulation which does not give us much information. We understand, however, that this is a game server intended for the local cloud, which would place this Trident in competition with the Concept Nyx recently presented by Alienware.
If it is indeed such a system, it will allow an entire home to play in the cloud simultaneously and on different platforms, from smartphone to PC. But many unknowns still persist. It is for example quite astonishing that this product is attached to the Trident range if it is really a local cloud solution. standalone. This suggests that it will rather be a fairly classic PC, but which will be able to take advantage of a new application called Game Stadium to offer a local cloud.
But the technical specifications, price and release date have yet to be officially announced, so we’ll have to wait a bit longer to learn more about it.
A tower and a state-of-the-art monitor for demanding gamers
Aegis, the manufacturer’s high-end PC series, is also making a very noticeable comeback with the MSI MEG Aegis Ti5. This is a machine whose case takes the futuristic codes of this lineup, while pushing the concept even further. The shape is even more convoluted than usual, and highlighted by a more elaborate set of LEDs.
To top it off, it has a thumbwheel that allows the user to view various information about the status of the system. What to learn about the temperature of the processor or the graphics card, for example.
And as always in the Aegis series, MSI seeks to push the high end to its limits. This Ti5 will be entitled to a processor 12th Generation Intel Core and RTX 3090 graphics card; enough to blow up the FPS counter in any game and tackle extremely demanding creative tasks.
It will be perfect with the new monitor MSI Optix MPG321UR-QD. It is a superb new generation gaming monitor with virtually no borders, and capable of outputting 144 frames per second in 4K. Unfortunately, the prices for both the tower and the monitor are still unknown, as is the date of availability.
MSI also unveiled its new Intel motherboards with the series MSI H670, MSI B660, and MSI H610. All are available in DDR4 and DDR5 versions, and benefit from the very latest connectivity standards. Buyers will therefore be entitled to Wi-Fi 6E, USB 3.2 Gen 2, 2.5G LAN ports, and so on. Additionally, new memory and temperature management solutions are expected to improve the overall stability and performance of systems assembled around these boards.
You will not need to go far to find components to connect to it. Indeed, MSI also unveiled its new range of SUPRIM custom graphics cards. Traditionally expensive products. On the other hand, they are unquestionably part of the best GPUs custom market, especially thanks to their bluffing thermal performance. Even though we don’t yet know the exact specs, there is something to expect some solid bets in the tradition of previous editions.
A whole range of new peripherals
Finally, MSI is also refreshing its catalog of peripherals. It starts with the keyboard, with the arrival of the all new GK71 Sonic. This is a full-size mechanical keyboard that however chooses to do without the essential Cherry MX switches. Instead, it will be equipped with proprietary Sonic Red switches.
There are four media buttons in the upper right corner, as well as a volume control wheel. The keyboard will also come with a leatherette wrist rest. However, we regret the absence of configurable shortcut keys.
Visually, this keyboard is the subject of a very divisive aesthetic bias. Indeed, the edge of the keys is fully transparent; they therefore seem to levitate above the underlying LEDs, which gives a very futuristic aspect to the whole. Perfect for RGB addicts, a little less for fans of more sober setups.
On the other hand, the latter will probably be more satisfied with the look of the helmet. MSI Immerse GH50. This is a wireless gaming headset with 50mm neodymium diaphragms. Other than this information, we don’t really have any technical details about this device. We just know that it will have a ceramic antenna. According to MSI, it should reduce latency to negligible levels up to 20 meters.
On the other side of the sound wave, it will also be possible to record yourself thanks to the new microphone Immersive GV60 Streaming Mic. This is the brand’s first foray into the “Streaming” branded microphone segment. Unfortunately, this is the sidereal vacuum when it comes to technical specifications; MSI has not disclosed any information that would give an idea of its performance.
