Sony will wait at least a year to bring PS5 exclusives to PC

Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, has confirmed in an interview that the release of PS5 exclusive game adaptations on PC It will take at least a year. This means that users of the new generation console from Sony will enjoy an annual exclusivity, and that this period is set at a minimum, which means that in some cases it could last even longer.

If we look at the approach that Sony has been taking in this regard, we will realize that, in general, the release of PS4 and PS5 exclusives on PC has taken between two and four years. For example, Uncharted 4 came to PS4 in 2016, while Spider-Man Miles Molars came to PS4 and PS5 in 2020. Days Gone, another of the great PS4 exclusives, debuted in 2019 and came to PC in 2021.

I wanted to share these specific examples with you because they allow us to set a specific pattern of the releases that Sony has been doing, and because they make it clear what we can expect in the medium and long term. Hulst speaks of minimum periods of one year, but I am inclined to think that in the case of large exclusive triple A titles, in the end, the wait will be two years, unless their sales have not reached the expected level and Sony has to try to make them profitable by maximum.

According to the latest information we have seen, the next PS4 and PS5 exclusives that will arrive on PC will be Horizon: Forbidden West and Ghost of Tsushima, although we still don’t have concrete dates, so I can’t tell you anything specific. However, based on the dates of arrival of both games on Sony consoles, logic tells us that the first to be ported to PC should be Ghost of Tsushima.

As for the PC version of The Last of Us Part 1, one of the most anticipated, everything seems to indicate that its arrival will not take place until sometime in 2023. Hust has also confirmed that the sales of the adaptations of exclusive PS4 and PS5 to PC have allowed to increase investment in triple A games, and has commented that PlayStation Studios plans to reinforce its commitment to the PC sector and gaming on mobile devices. , in fact recently we saw rumors that pointed to the possible launch of a launcher on PC.

Another front in which they also plan to reinforce their investment is in the games as a service, and it is totally understandable, since this type of games can easily become a source of constant income, thanks to the model of the game as something alive, changing and evolving in real time to offer new experiences to the players. Its monetization can be carried out in different ways, such as the subscription model and micropayments. I leave the full interview in the attached video.
