the new trailer bets on nostalgia

Expected next April, the third Fantastic Beasts opus will star Mads Mikkelsen in the role of the wizard Grindewald. However, a central character is missing.

Only a few more weeks before finding Norbert Scamander on the big screen. After four years of absence, the most famous Hufflepuff of his generation will return for a third part of the saga Fantastic Beastsbaptized Dumbledore’s Secrets. The opportunity to find Jude Law in the skin of the director of Hogwarts, but also Eddie Redmayne and Dan Fogler in the title roles.

A dive into the Pensieve

Back to the heart of Dumbledore’s memories, with this new trailer that plays the card of nostalgia. To introduce the new sequence, Warner Bros uses a well-known sequence from the Harry Potter saga, where we see the headmaster of Hogwarts diving headfirst into a Pensieve. Clever way to remind fans that they’ll be reuniting with the characters they love so much in just a few months.

Grindelwald changes his mind

For this third installment, it’s no longer a surprise, we will have to do without Johnny Depp. While the actor had played the role of the wizard Grindelwald in the first two films, he was finally ousted from the project in 2020, following a legal battle opposing him to his ex-wife Amber Heard. Instead, Mads Mikkelsen will reprise his role.

Among the new faces of the saga, we note the presence of actors Oliver Masucci, Dave Wong and Maria Fernanda Cândido, all three candidates for the election of the great Manitou of the International Confederation of Wizards. Alongside them, there are also several well-known secondary figures, but one in particular is missing.

Where is Tina?

On the posters shared by Warner, we indeed find Queenie, gone to the dark side in the second part of the saga, but no trace of his sister Tina. Strange when you know that the young aurora has a very special relationship with Norbert in the universe, and therefore logically in the rest of the films. Especially since this is not the first time that the character played by Katherine Waterston in the saga of David Yates is missing: she was already absent from previous trailers, and does not seem to appear anywhere.

A dispute with JK Rowling?

Among the hypotheses which would explain the absence of Tina, one can evoke the fact that the actress openly criticized JK Rowling’s transphobic remarks on social networks. She had notably apostrophized the author directly, explaining “Sorry, you can’t be a feminist if you’re not for everyone’s human rights, especially the rights of other women”. However, it is difficult to believe that this position could have cost him his place. Remember that before her, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) had also condemned the words of JK Rowling.
