Although it is true that those classified as “gaming chairs” are usually quite expensive and with designs that, well, look like racing cars, it is also the fact that they are designed to be able to sit in them for hours and hours without feeling back pain and tiredness. Quality and design come at a price, and when you are one of those who spend many hours in front of a PC, our recommendation is that you consider the purchase of the chair as an investment and not as an expense.
Don’t use an office chair on a gaming PC because…
To begin with, let’s talk about headrest or the neck cushion. Having a comfortable headrest is essential to have a good posture and stay focused while gaming on the PC, and in fact, maintaining a healthy posture in the chair contributes to less back pain and fatigue. If you constantly put your hand to the back of your neck while you are at the PC, consider that your chair does not have a proper headrest (or that it does not even have one, that is).
Unfortunately, most office chairs do not have headrests, and those that do do not allow you to adjust their position or height. On the contrary, most gaming chairs have a cervical cushion that will allow you to put it on and off at will and place it in the position you want, which is always an advantage.
On the other hand, we must mention the design. We have mentioned before that most gaming chairs have a “racing car” design that, a priori, may seem like an aggressive design but is actually designed to promote a good posture for use, which forces you to have your legs and your back in the correct (and natural) position that will help you avoid bad postures and, consequently, pain and back problems. It is interesting that the chair “wraps” your body for this, and it is something that most office chairs do not offer.
Another aspect to take into account is the possibility of adjust position of the chair; Normally, an office chair will allow you to raise and lower the seat height with a gas lift and nothing else, while most gaming chairs will allow you not only that, but also change the angle of the backrest, the rocking and even in many models, the height and position of the armrests. Adjusting the chair to your size and posture is essential to be more comfortable and thus be able to sit for hours and hours without suffering pain or other problems.
Although many office chairs claim to provide a ergonomics Ideal for sitting in them for 8 hours a day, the reality is that -and those of us who have spent years working in offices know this- you end up with pain at the end of the day, every day, triggering more serious health problems. However, and from my own experience, a server has been working from his house for more than 3 years with a TOP gaming chair and those aches and pains disappeared automatically, essentially thanks to the change of chair.
And, make no mistake, a gaming chair is not just aesthetic, but has been designed for adjustment and customization that most office chairs cannot offer. It is true that there are models of high-end office chairs that offer the same as gaming chairs and even more, and that can actually be even better… but we are talking about models that, in general, cost double or triple that of one Gaming chair in good condition.
