What has brought us macOS Sonoma

macOS Sonoma

On June 5, Apple presented many new and very popular news at WWDC. The new Vision Pro got the most attention, but just barely, since the American company also unveiled three new Mac models: the 15-inch MacBook Air, Mac Pro and Mac Studio. All with the M2 chip waiting to see their updates in 2024 to the M3. But we cannot forget the operating systems, which on the other hand, the WWDC focuses on them. For the Mac they gave us a new concept called macOS Sonoma and this is all it brings us.

The purpose of Apple is that when a user of its terminals has an iPhone and then an iPad and a Mac, everything is connected and that it is not complicated to use it at all. What’s more, the idea is that the use of one is almost the same as the other and the size of the screen does not matter. For this reason, one of the novelties of macOS Sonoma is that of Widgets in the style of iOS and iPadOS 17, which it will be possible to place anywhere on the desktop, and they will adapt to the color of the wallpaper.

These Widgets will allow us, for example, to pause music, review to-do lists, and much more. The possibilities are limitless, since the apps can create their own widgets, compatible with Mac, iPhone and iPad. So the chances of filling the desktop with these shortcuts can be difficult to choose if we do not want to get lost among so many that we can add.

Following this Apple trend, another of the innovations inherited from the iPhone and iPad is a new smart auto corrector when entering text, and the ability to send animated stickers in iMessage. On the other hand, now we can go to the voice assistant just by saying “Siri”, without the need for other commands to activate it. It is as if we had an iPhone or an iPad on the table and not on the road.

Now, one of the novelties that distinguishes the iPhone and iPad is the game mode introduced in macOS Sonoma. In this new version of the operating system for Macs, the use of video games on Macs will be boosted to a certain extent thanks to new «Game Mode or Game Mode»which ensures that the operating system releases all possible resources for the aforementioned video games.

Something very important in all these game programs, as the most experienced players will know, is latency. macOS Sonoma, is specialized in reducing the latency (response time) of Bluetooth, so that fluidity increases. For example, if we play with AirPods, the sound will have less delay, and the controls will send the signal faster. Yes, if you’re thinking about it, you have to say yes. There is official support for PlayStation 5 and Xbox controllers.

In fact, if you are a fan of video games and have seen the image that heads this entry, you will have noticed that in the presentation on the 5th, he made his appearance, Hideo Kojima presenting Death Stranding Director’s Cut. We already know that it is an attractive game with very good graphics. Since 2020 we have it in mind and on other platforms we have been with it for a year. Apple has never been characterized by a love of video games. Maybe with macOS Sonoma, things will change a little… or a lot.

There are many more new features in macOS Sonoma, and more are sure to follow. As we go testing the betas and we know how the operating system evolves, we will surely learn new things. We know from the presentation that Sonoma has also included improvements in the videoconferences. Now, for example, we have a striking way that removes the background in video calls, so that we can appear on virtual stages or on the document that we are presenting.

Safari is updated with new and several profiles with which to interact at the same time. We can create work, personal or educational profiles and switch between them. By the way, security and privacy have been enhanced in Safari. Now we are tracked less and we can secure the tabs with the fingerprint so that no one accesses without our consent.

Another improvement is share screen. Performance has been greatly improved. More resolution, high frame rates, very low response times and even the possibility of working with two virtual screens are promised, all with work videoconferences in mind. We assume that the pandemic has taught us that it can happen to us again and we don’t want it to catch us like before.

By the way, now with macOS Sonoma, we can autofill PDF documents directly, with personalized recommendations.

Many novelties, but surely they will not be the only ones here until it is finally launched at end of this year.
