Thanks to fiber optic connections, today we can download multi-gig files from the Internet in a matter of minutes. However, storage servers are increasingly placing more restrictions to prevent users from sharing certain content through them (unless, of course, they pay to do so). That is why, more and more, P2P networks are the salvation of users. Although they may not go down as fast as we would like.
Downloading a torrent file is very easy. All we have to do is download the .torrent file from any download website (or copy the magnet link, faster) and add it as a new download to our favorite program. We can use uTorrent, if we like the old programs, or faster and lighter alternatives like Transmission or qBittorrent if we are not afraid of change.
As long as we have the program open, it will be downloading the data to our computer. Even if the download is complete, it will use our copy of the file to share it with others. After all, this is how P2P networks work. But, as is logical, when the program is closed, it will not be downloading anything.
Our torrent download client can be closed for many reasons. For example, you can generate an error critical that makes Windows terminate its process so as not to harm the rest of the system, it may Windows restarts for some reason or just that let’s turn off the pc at night. If the file is small, we will not have problems and it will almost certainly be downloaded in a single session. But if it occupies hundreds of gigabytes, or several terabytes, we will need several days. And this is where this trick comes into play.
Open the torrent client at Windows startup
If we don’t want to be aware of opening the download program all the time, and check that it is indeed working, we can resort to a very simple function that ensures that, when Windows starts, the program opens automatically. We can find this function in all the programs, so, let’s use the client that we use, we can have it.
In the case of qBittorrent, We can find this option in the options menu, in the “Behavior” section.
In the case of uTorrent, on the other hand, we can also find it within the preferences panel, specifically in the “General” section.
And, if we use other programs to download torrents, it will be in a similar section. Therefore, the only thing we have to do to prevent the program from being closed is to check these options. Additionally, we can also make the program open in the background so that we don’t even have to minimize it once it’s open.
A very simple and obvious trick, but one that will help us not to waste time again thinking that we are downloading a file when, in fact, the download program was closed. And, if we do not plan to download anything in a season, it will be enough to uncheck these options and that’s it.
