This would be the new motherboards for Intel Core processors

It seems that Intel would be preparing the arrival on the market of its new Core 13th Gen processors, also known as Raptor Lake. According to a recent rumor, at the end of this same month of July the motherboards with the Intel Z790 chipset. Motherboards with this new chipset will implement some improvements over the 600 Series chipset.

So far, everything indicates that the Intel Raptor Lake processors they would not be released until next October. But first, Intel plans to support these processors in its 600 Series chipset. Even so, a launch in the third quarter is not proposed by the company, it would only be a presentation.

Intel plans to introduce and launch Raptor Lake motherboards in July

It should be noted that Alder Lake and Raptor Lake share the Intel LGA1700 socket, with backward compatibility between the two. This means that we can install the new processors on “old” motherboards and vice versa. The only limitation will be on the features that each processor and motherboard supports.

According to Moore’s Law is Dead, Intel Z790 boards will support M.2 PCIe Gen 5 SSD. Although there are currently no M.2 SSDs that support PCIe 5.0, these are still under development. Phison already offers a controller to be able to manufacture these storage units.

A launch is not planned in the next few weeks, but a simple exhibition of products. Intel and motherboard manufacturers will show their future motherboards with Z790 chipset. To a lesser extent, we could see some price reveal, something that seems unlikely.

Information also indicates that the motherboard validation process will begin in August. Subsequently, the mass production of the same will begin. So the Intel Core 13th Gen, also known as Raptor Lake, could be released between October and November. It is possible that Intel will do the same as with the 12 Gen, that they first launch the Core-K models and in January the rest of the processors.

As an additional note, HwiNFO has added preliminary support to ASUS Z790 motherboards. Something that can be an indication of presentation soon.

No really relevant news

The Raptor Lake processors are not expected to add much to the current Alder Lake processors. This new generation of processors only increases a little in the number of cores and frequencies. Something possible by using an improved 10nm manufacturing process with respect to the 12th Gen.

The current Intel Core 12th Gen offer support for DDR4 and DDR5, although it is the motherboard that indicates what type of modules to use. The same will happen in the next Core 13th Gen. In addition, Alder Lake already offers native support for PCIe 5.0, although there is no hardware that takes advantage of it. Raptor Lake will also not, in principle, have hardware that takes advantage of the 16 main PCIe 5.0 lines.

The addition of support for M.2 PCIe 5.0 SSDs does not justify a motherboard upgrade in any way. At the moment, there are no SSDs that support this technology and those that arrive will be absurdly expensive, without a doubt.
